1) Apparently a pomegranate and a turnip look superficially similar before one cuts into them.

Apparently. Perhaps to someone who is not familiar with either...

You should see my face right now. My eyebrows have climbed up to my hairline, and I have this really bemused grin on my face. I've also just read the whole saga out loud to my husband. He pointed out that you _could_ mistake pomegranates for turnips. If you had one described to you by a blind man over the phone...

I once accidentally squished two or three pomegranate seeds at our kitchen table. There were squirts of pomegranate juice on the kitchen cupboards three metres away, on the wall. Your kitchen must have lookes like the aftermath of the Valentine's Day Massacre.
