Your kitty is at least being useful outside by keeping the birds away. My cats would have eaten the fake flowers and puked down the stairs followed by batting the cherries around the garden.
This sounds suspiciously like what my squatter-cat would do. Possibly followed by bringing me most of a dead thing and then rolling in it, on the only carpeted spot of floor.
If you tie disposable aluminum pie plates in the cherry tree, that will help keep the birds away much better than the awning that Beloved has so thoughtfully provided them. Birds dislike the shiny of the pie plates.

Really. Because the only male in this household is a neutered cat and the only flowers we have are some seriously fake wisterias on the altar.
(My grandmother sent me flowers for my birthday once. I'm told the resulting fit of temper is still legend in that newsroom.)
I'm sure the birds are truly appreciative of the lovely awning, though. :)
