There are apparent differences about him in that this Pope seems to have been something of an ascetic as a cardinal - in as much as a cardinal tends to be. And he apparently has a record that isn’t awful when it comes to poverty issues.

This has lead an inordinate amount of people to praise his “social justice” dedication and “man with a ( Read more... )

Same old stale wine in a different container.

And- They've traded a Pope that aided and abetted child molestation for one that may very well have aided and abetted murder - of Priests no less. Now that's what I call progress.

A friend of mine is already calling him Frank Popus. I'm actually going to miss Benedict, if only because he was a lot more fun to macro than this guy looks like he'll be.

At least Benedict had the decency to look like Palapatine and be easily mockable

He was not in cahoots with Argentinian military regime, let me assure you. The president (whose sister in law was a functionary in the actual regimen) accused him of that when he dared to point out the country was still horribly poor and had children dying of starvation (which it has, I lived there a few years). The same president sais just two days ago that anyone who has diabetes does because they're rich and lazy, so take that from where it comes from. Oh, and they had an horrible train crash last year that caused 51 deaths because all trains are over 60 years old and have no manteinance, and the brakes didn't work. Guess who complained of that and got called a collaborator of the military yet again?

I've seen multiple sources on both sides so am not sure which way to jump, especially since there's been no real investigation of any real kind.

Possible he was just slandered - still leaves him as a grossly evil, nasty bigot, alas. It's sad really that someone can be such an evil person that we can strike one thing this huge off the slate and he's still a nasty, horrible excuse for a human being

I expected the same old thing so this was not surprising. However I do feel for those who were really hoping for some sort of change and didn't get it.
