Stepping back, reassessing, reviewing

So the week before last was not a good week. Ups and downs, yes? Well, this was a down. Part of it was the general badness being generally bad, part of it was because it was, frankly, a bad news week and that, in turn was exacerbated by the behaviour of several of those writing about it and generally made me rethink my involvement in many places, ( Read more... )

There are certain times in our lives, when it may necessary to protect ourselves. Sometimes that means shielding ourselves from those things which continually assault us, causing us repeated and deepening harm.

I see recognizing this, then taking action, as a very healthy move.

I think it's a very basic sense that I don't use enough, If somehting uis hurting and unhelpful, stay away from it

I don't blame you. I've pulled back from a lot of atheist spaces for similar reasons - they're not safe for me as a woman or as a disabled person, yet they're claiming intersectionality and social justice labels. It's a shame because when you deconvert from Chrisitanity you not only lose your faith, but the community that goes with it (not that those communities are all that safe either, but still ...). At least if you convert to another faith there's another community waiting for you. Atheists have a long way to go if they want to give ex-believers a 'safe place to land'.

I gave social justice spaces far too much benefit of the doubt. You think that some of these marginalised communities would know better - but time and again they do not not even remotely. And intersectionality has become such a meaningless buzz word to me
