A Weekend Update!

I bought a book! It is the Chicks with Sticks Guide to Knitting which is a getting-started book for knitting. It takes you through simple projects to more complicated ones (ending with sweaters, omg) but teaches you new techniques with each one. It seems interesting! I still have to finish my friend Chris' Redskins scarf, but then I plan on getting ( Read more... )

my thrilling life of academia, fitness, biking doesn't make me a hipster, diy fuck yeah

You should come over and knit with me. Just sayin'. Or I could wander over your way and see your new place. :)

We should do that! I'm down for either, or we could meet someplace in the middle. It'd likely have to be a Sunday afternoon- most of my week is taken up with work and studying. But if a different day is better, we can work it out. Let me know!

Sunday's good! Somewhere in Bethesda or Silver Spring? (Or... wherever you live? Don't remember. BAD LILL.)

Live in Silver Spring, work in Bethesda. Either one works, its not like they're far from each other. If Silver Spring, you might as well come on over to my apartment and have a look-see. :) I can't make any promises about neatness, but there is a couch and a massive television.

I just love books like that - that go from the basics to more complex stuff! My Mom bought me a couple of sewing books like that and even though the basics are what I already know, it is super fun to start at the beginning and learn things the "right" way and actually SEE that you're making progress ( ... )

I am quite excited about the knitting book, there are definitely some cute projects in there. Project #2 is a little clutch, it looks awesome!

Stupid drivers, omg. I almost got sideswiped today by some asshole driving and texting at the same time. I seriously hate careless drivers, it pisses me off to no end.

Thank you! I am not actually doing Weight Watchers- my friend Lauren recommended an app called My Fitness Pal that basically works the same way, but with calorie counting rather than points. It has a huge database, so I can look up pretty much every food I eat, and if I can't find there, I can create a new food item!

I have not heard of Power Foods, what's the deal? Is it choosing foods packed with more good stuff, like fish and spinach? I am curious!

My toe is much better, thank you. It still turns purple sometimes, and it will occasionally twinge, but for the most part I don't think about it. I do, however, avoid walking around the house barefoot. Sigh.

Yeah, to stupid drivers. UGH. My parents bought me a rechargeable airhorn - it was awesome and quite loud. I sewed a little thing to attach it to my handlebars and I definitely used it a handful of times. The problem, though, is that when stuff like that happens, it is more important that you actually try to stay safe and upright than honk the horn. GRRR ( ... )

A rechargeable airhorn sounds AMAZING! I am seriously considering looking into it!

I am super cautious around bikes when in a car, because years ago I actually did get into an accident with a cyclist. I was turning right onto Bradley, and he was biking the wrong way up it. I was going incredibly slowly, so he was uninjured, thank god, but it was HORRIFYING. I now look EVERY freakin direction when turning, especially in an area that has a lot of cyclists.

That Power Foods chart looks interesting. Back when I did WW, a lot of those foods were either low or zero points, and meetings definitely focused on eating the good stuff, not just things that were "diet" friendly. I would love it if you emailed me the packet, and yes, that is still my email address. I'm rather staid when it comes to that. :-P

I feel you on being careful about shoes. I had Osgood-Schlatter's in high school, and my knees haven't been good since. I definitely understand the importance of good shoes.
