The Guardian is fine, The Times and the Independent also, it depends on the politics whoever is reading it what they would choose, but all three are serious and reliable. There are certainly world news in there, not sure to what extent it's investigated, but I am sure it is.

We always read the Independent and it does cover global issues.

http://www.independent.co.uk/

Click on the news tab and you'll get a drop down box for world news.

Also depends what sort of news story you're talking about. The Independent imho has a more dedicated foreign coverage than the Guardian and makes a point of reporting on conflicts in forgotten corners of the world. Especially where someone is being oppressed. They do a pretty good job of explaining the history of disputes rather than jumping in with the "400 priests killed in military crackdown" details.

The Times also has highly respected foreigh coverage, especially of the current hotspots whatever they are. They will be the one with the reporter giving you a first-hand account from right where the mortar shells are hitting.

I think of the Times as being more centre-ish in its politics, whereas the Guardian and the Independent are more left-leaning and the Independent in particular is prone to inflammatory anti-government headlines (they had some great ones early in the invasion of iraq but I can't quote them).

They are all credible for international news, but your choice can say so much more!

Hm. I was thinking about big international robberies, but not some small end-of-the-world country; more like France or Switzerland, and particularly the type that would have not-terribly-rich citizens somewhat secretly pleased/vindicated.

Maybe the Independent, then, because they'd turn the whole issue into a matter of how is OUR government protecting us? and thus make it worth a front page... :thoughtful:

I'm fascinated to see where this story is going!!

I would have thought any of the three papers might credibly report on that sort of thing, if it had something unusual or noteworthy to make it more than just your common garden variety robbery. It would have to be pretty unusual to make the front page though. Have a look at the independent's website - their European news section has a big variety of stories and I can see a bank robbery fitting in there.

Oh i really can't wait to see how this all fits in to your plot!

Um, I hope you are not expecting to see the story finished and published in the near future. Because you won't. I write as slow as you won't believe and have a horrendous semester ahead of me.

The story began to form in my head when I finished The Astronaut Phase, so you might imagine where the plot might be heading... Only, not quite the same way. Actually, I meant to ask and here is an appropriate place - do you mind if I shamelessly steal that bank-robberies idea? Not that your Draco really was a thief but, you know. That's what sparked me and I thought I'd ask.

Haha, it seems like I'll just randomly say, kiddo, Guardian or Independent, and go with whichever sounds prettier to the brat, because votes seem to be tie right now :g:
