I dunno, that opening scene seemed pretty Australian to me, unless my accent ear is totally destroyed from too much travel! I thought a lot of the women looked pretty Aussie too. But a bit too spiky later on. Maybe they were attempting to emulate echidnas?
Btw if you ever get to Burning Man, I have no doubt you would totally appreciate
The american and english accents probably give it away - along with the whole 911 thing - and the occasional left hand drive :P
Tom Hardy is British, and Charlize Theron is South African - the first Australian I found was the bad guy - oddly enough the same bad guy in the first film.
