And after talking with Flame, she and I have determined that because Spring is the best season and it is good to start the year off well,

this should mark the beginning of the year!After all, it is not like we know why years start the way we are used to them starting! Why not say that

Just don't let the dogs jump on me. I can't stand that.

[Which is... partly because her quetz mind sees all but the largest dogs as food.]

[Anyway, she shows up, ambling through the housing section getting odd looks, and pits up a rock with her beak tip. She uses that to knock on the door, a sort of slow thing.]

[He can understand not wanting to be jumped by dogs, and he makes sure the dogs are distracted by toys and food before he slips out the door, closing it snugly behind him so they couldn't get out. And then Gai looks up and starts trying to figure the logistics of this hug out.]

[She casually tosses the rock back where she picked it up.]

Yeah, I think if there weren't all these dragons around I'd be the biggest talking thing here.

Usually they don't. Apple's got wings, when he wants them. [She tips her head and looks at him out of one eye, then the other.] Got something to stand on?

[Gai considers for a moment before nodding.]

[He dashes inside, looking for... there. The stepstool. They didn't use it often, but clearly it was needed. He brought it back, again carefully closing the door behind him. Then the stool got set up next to Above and Gai climbed it.]

If you move slightly to the right it will be perfect!

[She snorts out loud - it's an odd sound, made a little resonant by the hollow chamber in her beak - and laughs telepathically.]

All right, all right.

[She sidesteps right a little. For a moment her neck curls back away from him - with no facial expressions to speak of, her neck does most of her emoting - but she swings it back into place. Can't get out of it now. Besides, she did want to know how it would work.]

[Grinning, he embraced her neck. It was careful; he wasn't sure how fragile she was, but he couldn't completely hide the strength of his arms.]

Thank you! And this works! You are not too tall for hugs!

[There's a pause.]

Are you able to hug back? If not that is fine. It would be complicated, I would think, but I have never been hugged by someone like you before.

[Her neck, though powerful enough to move her huge head like a javelin or to hold it up for long periods of time, is thinner under the long not-hair. Think someone's waist.]

Not conventionally, I think. Wings. [She cants her head in a shrug, trying not to be weirder out by this.] Does this count?

[Above dips her head so that the underside of her jaw presses along his back at an angle.]

[He's glad she tried back, and pats her neck gently as he pulls away just a bit.]

[Well, this is one of the weirder things she's done this week. When it's done she sidesteps away a little and shakes out the pycnofibers on her neck, like a dog would, so it flares out. A scattering of longish not-hairs have been shed; with the warmer weather, she's losing part of her coat.]

Yeah, sure. [Above had been hoping he'd be more taken aback, but hey, no loss.]

Say hi to Bell for me, ok?

[It's interesting, seeing the hairs. He's reminded of the three dogs in the house and the way they're starting to shed too.]
