My name is Gai.

You may use it or Youth as you would like. I have not been very youthful of late; Gai might fit better. But I will not be upset whichever one someone uses.

If anyone who is without their weapons needs assistance with the basics of hand-to-hand, I am available to instruct.

Gai? Like Guy or Gay

Wait, maybe I'll just ask you in person.

I do not need to hide the way my name is pronounced. Gai, as in a person. I am not gay.

So Gai pronounced guy--wait a minute. Yes you are.

Exactly.

I am what? Gay? I am not. Why would you think I am?

Gai. I shall be sure to call you by your true name.

Are you still doing well?

I am truly glad to hear it. [Even if she doesn't quite believe it...]

Perhaps we should do something for Genius and Derrick's [pen taps] birthday? I think that could be rather [slight pause] fun.

I think that we should. I shall have to find presents.

Thank you. I am sure that you will gain your name too sometime in the future, even though you have a very nice one.

Gai... Wow, it's really different, but I like it!

Sorry if I slip and call you Youth once in awhile. I've gotten so used to calling you that.

Thank you, Promise. I am glad that it is likeable.

Do not worry about it. I have gone by Youth for a year. I do not expect everyone to remember promptly.

It really is. I think it suits you. [She draws in a smiley face next to the words.]

Oh, I know, but it's your real name. It's kind of important. I wouldn't mind if people forgot, but I'd also really want people to use it, if they could.

[After a brief pause...] I guess it's kind of complicated after all.

It is a name. Part of what makes it important is that it means something to the people who speak it and hear it. You will mean the same thing whether you say Youth or Gai.
