It's late... Or early, depending on how you look at it. There's something or other on the television but Dan isn't paying attention. It's been a long night, starting with a brutal patrol and ending with escalation to an argument with his partner, followed by a romp on the sofa that left them both winded and Dan sighing with contentment. Now, as far as he's concerned, nothing can reach them, not the time, or the weather, or whatever little program is playing on TV

"Oh my god." Walter's voice cuts through the argument like nothing. He's looking at Dan's Nite Owl costume.

Rorschach sighs.

"Bring him along. Can stay in Archie while we do rounds." Rorschach grimaces. "Considering Comedian, this isn't first time I've sat on floor."

THAT caught Walter's attention.

"You know the Comedian?" He said, voice odd.

"Uh, yeah, kinda hard not to considering..." and Daniel gestures to his costume.

"You should stay away from him, he's bad news." Walter said.

Okay. Walter did well in literature and religion back in Charlton, right? Here’s the premise: Walter writes a story that catches the attention of some college. Instead of leaving at sixteen to work in menial jobs, Walter goes to college and works at menial jobs to pay off what his scholarships don’t pay for.
What I want is ProfessionalWriter!Rorschach. He can be a muckraking journalist, a novelist sensation, whatever.
Just as long as he meets Dan, somehow. Maybe Dan can be an up-and-coming inventor.
I’d love to write this myself, but I just don’t have a good handle on their characterizations.

oh my god, I have known some grizzled reporters at least as unstable as Rorschach. If I'm not careful I might end up with a fullblown newspaper AU, with Veidt as the publisher, Eddie as the asshole bureau cheif, Laurie as the political reporter who throws things, Dan as the idealist who really wants to be writing novels, By as the functional alcoholic ...

Oh god, I have known all of these people. And the parallels between the current newspaper industry and the mask game in the late 70s is a little too apt.

I almost feel wrong about that because I suspect - is that you, HS!anon? This sounds like your brand of awesome. I want, and yet I hate to suggest anything that would drag anon away from ongoing epics.
