It would’ve been laughable if Laurie hadn’t been so anxious to get out off base for a little while. Adrian had called her up and begged her to cat-sit for him for a night. His little genetic pet wasn’t big enough to leave the lab yet, something about it’s immune system being fabricated and apparently the little furball was death on priceless artifacts from the far corners of Egypt and Macedonia because every time Adrian had to travel overnight, it cost him God knows how much in statue repair ( ... )

She hadn’t noticed it before, but no way it was ancient Egyptian. It wasn’t stylized at all, looked almost textured with real fur and scales. It was some kind of animal, vaguely catlike with a crocodilian jaw. It was posed naturally in a crouch, one paw lifted , head down to stare at her. What the hell was it supposed to be? she wondered, forgetting the movie for a moment. She knew Egyptian myth was full of freaky hybrid animals and was trying to remember what the thing that ate souls if they weighed more than a feather was. Aw, I adore Adrian and Laurie friendship fics, especially when it involves the cat.

I thought at first, it was going to be the 'humans can lick too' legend, and was like, not bubu, noooooooooooooo, but I like this one much better.

I like the "fuck this" moment when Laurie was like, I'm getting the hell out of here, you freak. Like, damn it Adrian, be more careful!

Now, I'll be freaked out by the cat lizard thing, and really, it's dangerous, but I can't help but wonder how intelligent the poor thing is, maybe Frankenstein intelligent and bitter.

Ever see or read The Watchers? Where lab creates perfect loveable genius dog and hideous genius monster and then don't get it when the monster hates the dog because everyone loves it so much? Maybe the gatorcat just wanted to maul Bubu until she wasn't so Nermal-cute anymore.

I thought it was going to be "humans can lick too" as well, but the clown legend is just as much of a classic. Hopefully that shriek at the end wasn't Bubastis getting into a nasty encounter.

I'm thinking of taking on Bloody Mary myself. Most of the other classics, like "The Hook" and the half-dozen different takes of something horrible happening at Lover's Lane would only work in the HSverse.

Then again, I don't think the "HSverse in a horror story" fill from a meme or two ago was ever filled...
