I don't think I can get in all the stuff spam_monster asked for, but the ideas would not leave me alone. This is more a series of vignettes than a connected fic. Expect more in a week or two when I am not drowning in essay.

Captcha says: 'tomato vious'. Sorry, captcha, Italy and Spain don't show up at all.May, 1945. V-E Day was two weeks ago, and tonight Sally Jupiter is dancing with an airman on leave, and all around them lights glitter and people laugh, and she feels drunk with pleasure as well as drunk with gin, the euphoric high of a job gone utterly right or of seeing the papers congradulate her the next morning. She is not in costume; she is in a flowing green gown that flutters as he swings her out, then pulls her back close ( ... )

When I first saw this on the updates list I actually said, out loud, "Seriously? I am on the right page, right?"

Needless to say this was awesome and I love it to pieces. I'm saving it to my laptop to read again over and over while offline.

"privets Hillsboro"? What's Hillsboro done to you, Captcha, that you want to send the army there?

'charms over-25's'? Come on, captcha, America charms young people too! February, 1962. There is snow on the ground, and the second Nite Owl has been active long enough to have a reputation. At eight in the morning, Daniel Drieberg is sitting in a diner, eating pancakes for dinner. He sits next to the window, as he usually does, watching people pass by; around him, the noise of the crowded diner swells and rattles without quite making sense ( ... )

Oh, Dan. Dan, Dan, Dan. You didn't get his name because he didn't want you to ask. ;)

Another great chapter! Loving this so much.

August, 1969. There is a party at the White House. Dr. Manhattan attends, at the insistence of the head of NASA. Also in attendance are President Nixon, several members of his cabinet, most of NASA's high-level administrators, several entertainers, the astronauts from Apollo 11 and their families, and a young blond man whose identity no one seems quite sure of. Dr. Mannhattan has seen him before, hanging around the edges of important events ( ... )

Wow, you really captured Doc Manhattan. This was another wonderful chapter. I love how you wrote Alfred in this as well.

YES to this. I've always wondered what Watchmen-verse Hetalia characters would be like (Hetalia makes for great crossovers), and I love the way you wrote America in this. So optimistic but very subtly wrong, especially with that edge of hysteria. Oh, Cold War. Except it's even worse in WM-verse.

And Doc Manhattan was great, too, with his passive observance.

And now for the scene I wrote this whole thing for the sake of, really . . .

June, 1971. V-VN day was two days ago. The Comedian is flying back to Hawaii on board a C-2 Greyhound. He is trying to sleep, but it isn't working too fucking well, between the noise of the propellors and the way his leather armour digs into his skin and the things he keeps seeing when he closes his eyes. Which is stupid. He's shot people lots of times. Smashed faces, burnt flesh, did godawful things that left them a smeary mess over the pavement, the kind of thing that makes for closed-casket funerals. Not like it makes a difference, give it a few years and they'll all be charcol hunks anyway. And it wasn't like the bitch hadn't been asking for it; his face still aches whenever he tries to talk, and he's spent the last few days sullen and silent. It's just that the other goddamn bitch is sitting on the other side of the plane and he sees her whenever he turns his head, that's all. "Jones" is sitting next to her, and he's smiling at her, and he's got his ( ... )

"You heard me." Damn, he wants a smoke so bad. But he finished the last one before they took off. His cheek hurts, but he can't stop himself. "You think she'll actually like you? If you just do enough nice things for her? Buy her a diamond ring and a seven-speed blender? You think she cares? She's just using you. Women always do that. Fuck 'em if you like, but you can't trust them." He's warming to his topic now; Jones's knuckles are white and his lips parted on some unspoken protest. The Comedian allows himself a smirk. "Forget it. You could dump her out the plane right now and spare yourself the heartache. What were you gonna do with her anyway? Take her home?"

"Yes." His voice is pure ice. "Take her home and look after her. Like I promised. An idea that obviously never made its way through your fucking thick skull ( ... )

Generally speaking I'm a fan of the Comedian, but this chapter had me being really angry with him. Good writing, anon! Another awesome chapter. Awesome like Prussia.

"ga boilings", Captcha? What's a 'ga' and why do you want to boil it?

More of a gentleman than the Comedian, at least. XD And hey, it's Watchmen canon that Vietnam wound up as a US state. Inexplicably enough. So he kept his promise.

As requested, Canada beating somebody up. 'Eugene the', captcha? Sorry - Eugene is someone totally different.February, 1976. Hollis hits the brakes as soon as he sees the car with its hood up; this is no kind of weather for some poor soul to be stranded. He pulls up his old jalopy on the shoulder just behind. Maybe they need a juump, maybe it's more serious, but he's always willing to help. The car is a new-model Ford station wagon, sky-blue, and it gleams despite the dusting of road grime and salt ( ... )

He takes a deep breath before he turns around. Denim Jacket is lying on the ground, trying to fend off red Sweatshirt, who is kneeling over him, braced with one hand on the asphalt, apparently trying to strangle his brother byt hte shirt-collar. Hollis grabs him without really thinking about it. Red Sweatshirt kicks a bit. "LetmegoletmegoI'mgonnahithimsohard -" he gasps, but when Hollis wraps an arm around him in a wrestling hold, he shivers and goes still, breathing hard ( ... )

OMG CANADA! *dies of happy*

This is my favorite chapter yet. Because Canada and Hollis Mason and America all in the same chapter are (dare I even think it?) more awesome than Prussia.
