A soft bang sounded against the wall. He always did that, always rapped his knuckles against something in nervous habit when he got trapped and ran out of jokes. "Who's ignoring what, Sal?"

Oh God, oh God he was bringing that up, the other Great Big Unspoken Thing. Laurie slid her hand down to cover her mouth, fully aware she shouldn't be listening, entirely unable to stop because this-this was enormous. It was impossible that they were actually talking about it, but. Hell. If anyone could do the impossible, it was Eddie Blake.

Laurie and Jon approached Mason Dry Goods with grim determination. They'd need all the backup they could get during their descent into whatever madness Eddie was hurtling himself toward. It had only taken them a few minutes and even less discussion to ready themselves for the chase. They'd left her mother a letter and oh, Sally was going to kill her, but she could wait until all this was over.
