Webster's reopened today! If there was a perk to having to stay at home a week longer than I'd thought, being here for Webster's opening was definitely it. (There are turning out to be quite a few perks to staying in town a week longer, actually, getting better not the least of them.) For those SC natives who didn't make it to the ribbon-cutting, ( Read more... )

I almost cried when Elaine cut the ribbon! Just so great, I can hardly believe it's back. What an eventful day!

I wish I had actually been there for it! But you're right - it was just incredible good, and I can't quite believe it's really truly back, either! Like a dream that is actually real!

You should definitely visit someday! In fact, when you next come to SC! I'm sure you'll fall instantly in love. :D

I visited Webster's last weekend!! It's so great. The...curly-haired, bespectacled, rather cute gentleman employee whose name I always forget...informed me that the new location has exactly three times the floor space of the original Webster's! Sweet!

Also, I keep wanting to write to you in detail about it, but-- I really, really enjoyed The Scorpio Races , to the point of over-enthusiastically recommending it to a near-stranger who happened to ask me what book I was reading. Puck reminds me a lot of you, in a lot of ways. And I liked that Finn was strongly implied to have some kind of OCD or Asperger's-like condition, but that it wasn't anything the characters or the narrative made a huge deal about.

Oh please write me in great wonderful detail about The Scorpio Races!! And I'm so, so glad you liked it! Because the more I think about that book the more I have to say about it, and I'd absolutely love to know what you think (and I'd love the excuse to respond and say what I think). Puck? Oh, I love it!! She was just awesome - I wanted to be her friend, you know, even though she doesn't really have friends. And, yeah, I love how Finn was portrayed, both as a character and through Puck's eyes. (I really think you ought to check out Meg Cabot's 1-800-Where-R-You books, although you'll have to buy Book 5 - which is totally worth the, like, $5 you'd spend for it online - because Jess, that series' narrator, reminds me of Puck, only not as restrained, and the author also does some cool things through implication that I really appreciated.)

Let me know if you ever find someone who reminds you a lot of Sean Kendrick, eh? ;)
