OH GOD I HATE THIS TOO. It drives me absolutely insane. I don't even like it on clearly used boks - there's one seller I've bought several 80s YA books from who has barcodes on teh spone, and it takes off the elderly sipine as well. Ugh.

Couldn't have said it better. I've run into it more than once, and have no qualms about leaving the seller a bad review. I did try some liquid label remover, with varying degrees of success.
