What I hate about it is produce. If the produce doesn't have numbers you have to try to guess what type of apple/tomato/whatever and if you pick the wrong one get a totally different price.

Was it a manager? I would totally have called over a manager at that point. Unless she was a manager.

I don't mind self checkout at places that have all the scanny-stickers on them. But I never do it at the grocery store.

Woah that is some really shitty customer service. I would never go to that establishment again.

I hate those machines with a fiery passion. The hubby likes them but I'm with you...I am paying for a cashier, I want a cashier. I don't want to have to ring up my own groceries, bag them, and get yelled at by the blinking machine. I want to pull out my debit card and be done.

Also, I am with binaryprecision on this one.

I think it depends on the place and how new the machines are. There was this drug store by our house and every time I went there, there was this HUGE line and I'd have to wait forever to pay. Then they put in like six self-checkout machines and it was so wonderful. I got in and out so quickly.

But at many supermarkets, I have the same problem you do. Especially when the machines freak out when you don't place the item in the bag immediately.

I so wish you had held out for that dollar.
