Well friends…

I always joked that I didn’t trust the American tech companies so why throw rocks at livejournal for being a Russian one?

But at least American tech companies aren’t trying to openly start WWIII. As a paid user, I have to think a little about who I'm supporting.

Is this the end for us, livejournal friends? Are you leaving?

I'm moving.
Yesterday's news was the last straw.

I get that one doesn't trust any tech company completely, but over some time I've heard people complain about how any time some Russian minister or other politician or oligarch or whoever stubs his toe, there's some obnoxious kerfuffle and the Russian-based LJ platform quavers a bit and LJ users have difficulties for a while.
Without expecting any system to be perfect, I'm electing to express my confidence in Western Civilization by no longer maintaining an account for anything on a Russian server.
I have an account at Dreamwidth, but I need to get at least one entry done and posted so that if any of y'all find me over there you'll also find that wee bit of content. And, at that time I'll share the name, which is different than the one I'm using here.

I update both DW and LJ.

I had the same thought too--but companies aren't always in league with their government's actions. I think a lot of things come from Russia that would surprise us. If one enjoys any Playrix mobile games or point and click mystery games--surprise! Russian!

EDIT: A better example might be China. We all know China has human rights abuses out the wazoo and threatens Taiwan on a daily basis, but we still buy Chinese made goods and services.

Ha, that was my attitude too. I've backed up my LJ on Dreamwidth today but I think I'll still post on LJ for now.

I'm going to continue posting at LJ for as long as it exists, but I cross-post everything to DW so I can move over there at a moment's notice.

I was crossposting from DW to LJ but LJ seems to have blocked that now. So, I manually update LJ here and it's likely I will forget to that every now and then and maybe stop.

I will come to read though. Several folks here I have gotten to know and would miss!
