Yesterday's news was the last straw.
I get that one doesn't trust any tech company completely, but over some time I've heard people complain about how any time some Russian minister or other politician or oligarch or whoever stubs his toe, there's some obnoxious kerfuffle and the Russian-based LJ platform quavers a bit and LJ users have difficulties for a while.
Without expecting any system to be perfect, I'm electing to express my confidence in Western Civilization by no longer maintaining an account for anything on a Russian server.
I have an account at Dreamwidth, but I need to get at least one entry done and posted so that if any of y'all find me over there you'll also find that wee bit of content. And, at that time I'll share the name, which is different than the one I'm using here.

I had the same thought too--but companies aren't always in league with their government's actions. I think a lot of things come from Russia that would surprise us. If one enjoys any Playrix mobile games or point and click mystery games--surprise! Russian!
EDIT: A better example might be China. We all know China has human rights abuses out the wazoo and threatens Taiwan on a daily basis, but we still buy Chinese made goods and services.
