I know some times I post here about my life in management and I'm very... manager-y. I think people should work hard. Seek feedback to improve. Work extra hours when a project demands it. Be there for your company in a crisis. Answer your phone if I call you. Help the team.

I like your list. My only suggestion is to take your breaks and lunch. Time to reset during the day is just as important as vacations imo.

You sound like a decent manager.

oh my gosh yes. among the salaried office workers, breaks seem to be a thing of the past, but they shouldn't be. there was a time when smoke breaks were a very common thing! I'm glad there are fewer smokers in the world now... but rather than just gloss over it, I wish we'd make it a trend to get up and stretch and walk around outside on a nice day for 15 minutes.

You are a much better manager than some. At some of the places I have worked, this is not how managers expected me to operate. In particular, the first two items on your list would NOT fly at the last place I worked. Just to be clear, though, I agree with everything you've listed here, and I've operated this way all my working life. Then again, I've mostly worked for attorneys, who tend not to be good managers because they don't devote any thought to actually managing their employees.
