My special weekend assignment has been cancelled.

Ideas:

Investigate soup-related sources of recreation to occupy self and large pot of tortilla soup made last night.

Start soul-destroying Christmas shopping.

I remain uninspired.

Mmm, tortilla soup. Sounds good. A friend of mine gave me his recipe, but I've never had the chance to make it.

Christmas shopping. Bah. Luckily I only have mom to shop for, and we've pretty much decided to give each other money for Christmas so that we can buy our own stuff.

This tortilla soup recipe is a particular favorite because it involves dumping several cans of stuff into a pot, and then simmering until done. My kind of 'cooking.'

I don't have many people left to send actual Christmas gifts to. I do the cash exchange with my parents, and usually send just a few cute/interesting things to others. Seems to have been a dearth of the cute and interesting this year.

I have a few couples that have issued the dreaded "something for both of us" edict. Hard to do when they have such divergent interests. I think I'll plant trees for all of them this year.

I love cooking with can ingredients. That's why I make my chili more often than my stew.

I've never had that problem with couples before (then again, I'm not on gift-giving terms with many couples). Usually I give the gift to the married partner whom I know, and the spouse has to lump it.

Planting trees sounds like a lot of work. Gift cards/certificates might be a good idea, or you could give them the Christmas-decorated tissue boxes. Everyone can use a box of tissues.
