Oh man, that's a good sandwich too! WhichWich was the reason I had to make my own this time around. Usually the way a craving starts is that I'll have it at one place, love it, then have it again at another place about a week later and feel let down and needing to make my own. Hence, the Cuban. The Vista's was awesome, Whichwich on the other hand... not so much. I have yet to try the muffaletta there.
I hear the trick is to heat to cast-iron skillets on high, then smash the sandwich between them. However, since I do not have two iron skillets I have never tried this method. Buying a sandwich press is definitely easier and possibly cheaper than buying and seasoning two heavy cast-iron skillets.
hmmm, cast iron skillets and oil both run pretty cheap. How much is a sandwich press going for these days? The other problem I am running into stems from a kitchen gadget buying binge I went on recently. Now, I can make espresso, deep fry things, and make popcorn the easy way, but it all has taken it's toll on cabinet and counter space. It's amazing how small a kitchen becomes when it becomes more useful.
I use my Moka Express for coffee practically every day. I would love to buy a nice espresso machine, but I just can't justify it to myself.
I used to have a deep-fryer. I think maybe I left it at judie's when I moved out? I don't have a clue. I didn't need the encouragement to eat MORE fried food. But I seriously love corn dogs. Seriously.
I had a Moka Express for a while. The aluminum freaked Senta out, and the arduous task of keeping that thing clean without using soap gave me a headache. After about three months of once every other day use, I put it to pasture. I was flush with the student loan scrilla when I bought the machine I have now, and I figure in about two more weeks I will have paid it off in the savings I'm sustaining from cappuccino consumption.
The deep-fryer has actually kept me from consuming as much fried food. I use it now and then (about once a week) to make fries. I refrain from making anything else in it on account of Senta's Celiac's. I do love a good corn dog, though. When the craving strikes me, I'll use the cast iron skillet. Sweet moses, Bar S makes a wonderful corn dog, and it's local!
