We used to raise chicks from incubators - but there were always quite a gang of them, and they bullied the one cat! One little chick vs. 6 cats wouldn't be so good...
But you're doing everything right in keeping it warm, feeding it etc. make sure it has a water dish with very low sides to drink from - chickens can't swallow, they need to scoop water up in their beaks and tip their head back to let it run into their throat. And lots of little chick drown in their own water if it's too deep.
Um...not sure what to say apart from that! God luck either finding it a home or rearing it!
That's actually a great tip: I'll make sure it has a little dish to drink water from. For now, it's been drinking from a small syringe through which I squeeze water onto his beak drop by drop. It looks happy and healthy, though, and has elected my daughter as its mummy. :)
Your little namesake has officially become the little fluffball's mummy. You should see how loudly it cries when she leaves it alone in its cardboard box for a while! It actually chirps more happily when she's around and holds it in her warm hands. :)
Since London I've been pretty busy with the Amsterdam trade fair, but now that the show is over I can't wait to be back on LJ more steadily and finally get down to write something about our holiday.
