I read an article about Defiance and the producer said that playing the game would let you into some deeper aspects of the world they're creating but wasn't necessary. Yeah, I don't game either. I'm hoping to watch it tonight.
Yeah, that's what I read, too, but if they have too many gaps that are only filled by the game, I'll probably stop watching. It's kind of like the webisodes that Battlestar Galactica did. You really did need to watch them for the series to make sense, and I don't like that.
Actors do a better job on regional accents than they did years ago. Hugh Laurie played Dr. House, supposedly an American. Laurie didn't sound British but he didn't have an American regional accent as far as I am concerned. Looking at wikipedia, the writers made House a military brat, which is a clever cover as far as accents are concerned. On Castle, Detective Kate Beckett is played by Stana Katic, who is Canadian. Beckett is supposedly a born and bred New Yorker, but the actress does not have a New York area accent.
I haven't considered watching Defiant. The only dreadful sci fi series that we are watching now is Revolution.

I did watch Defiance last night and enjoyed it. We'll see if it holds up and, yeah, is understandable without the game.
