I really really liked this! Awesome characterization and dialogue. I love me some seriously dysfunctional Winchester brothers. They are the epitome of can't live with him, can't live without him. Their love is so fierce, so deep, so genuine, so twisted and yet so pure. It's just beautiful. And yet, they drive each other crazy. You depicted all of this so well. I loved the back and forth too. And holy crap, your telling of Sam "cleansing" himself was chilling. The case was excellent. It's rare to find such a good case fic. And the relationship between Sam and Dean was written perfectly. I loved this. Thanks so much for sharing! *hugs*
Thanks! I also love them when they're dysfunctional. And I'm glad you liked the case! It was a first for me, so I'm glad it worked for you. Thanks for the feedback!
I agree with Lj user="dear_tiger">, it's a total pleasure to read a case fic like this. I loved the characterization, wonderfully spot on--such broken, twisted boys, their pieces so broken that they only match each other. I can imagine them just going on together from this point like those five years never happened and never directly referencing them again.
Thanks so much for sharing this story, I *really* enjoyed reading it!
Thank youuuu! I love writing broken!brothers (because the show isn't angsty enough for me, I guess...?) and the case was fun to write as well. Thanks for the feedback!
Oh, boys...this was hard to read at times, but the brittle anger between them felt believable. I'm just glad you gave them some hope for the future - I think I needed that. Nicely done :)
I'm not sure what I loved about this the most. I'd just list things, but wow. Just wow. There's a realism to this that is utterly unforgettable. The dark and twisted need, the unspoken but well analyzed codependency, the love, the basic and unmistakable love that can't be forgotten or let go of no matter how badly they want to. It's the way you perfectly combined the need for family between them, the victims, and the monster. How even the most basic of relations, the ones that supposedly never break, break so quickly and so violently.
But most importantly when you had Sam apologize for all of those deaths and acknowledge that it's usually Dean's job to list and mourn the dead while Sam tries so hard to focus on the living. The way you got all of those little character quirks in Sam.
