The Test

Figured I'd write up how the test went. A former LJ friend of mine wrote up hers after she took it a few years back, and it was very useful for me to have read it before I took mine; maybe mine will be useful to others one day, or maybe it'll just be a good record of this particular hoop I've jumped through, for myself.

That extra £378 is DEFINITELY worth it. It was a long, nerve-wracking 2hr wait in the Sheffield office for the verdict, but I don't think either of us could have stood six months of waiting without being reduced to nervous wrecks.

Wow, it sounds like it's a quite difficult process there compared to here in the US.
I also think it's amusing the testing center was in a area with a lot of sex shops. ;)

By all accounts, and according to what I've seen in the official requirements (way back in the beginning, I did look at both ways before we decided which way we'd immigrate), it's far easier to come here than to go to the US. One gal I'm acquainted with on LJ had to wait two years after getting married to be allowed to join her husband in the US. He's American, she's British, they're older, 40s I think, have significant savings, he makes a helluva salary, owns his home, I think she owned hers here too, and so on: she was mystified and so am I as to why it took so long. There's a lot of misconception that immigration can't/won't keep a husband and wife apart, but they quite regularly do, in all different countries. Apparently one problem was that they got married here - though you wouldn't think it'd matter, this is the UK, it wasn't a marriage by an African tribe's witchdoctor: a marriage certificate from here should really be honored just the same as one from the US. Any immigrants to the US apparently have to undergo a medical ( ... )

Really? I was just thinking about when my husband and I got married, he was already here on a student visa so we didn't have to wait to have him come here ... didn't even think about those who are bringing a spouse over to the US. Yup, a medical exam is standard. :/
