Oh, I love this meme! And I usually think memes are stupid. Ahem. I'll do one later, I just made a completely vacuous post about American Idol so I better space out the postings. I'll try to do this tomorrow though. I love that Hopper painting. There's a special exhibit of Hopper here in Chicago right now, I need to get over there before it's finished.

I think it's the dress she's wearing, but the Whistler reminds me a lot of the cover of PJ Harvey's White Chalk, though I think there's a difference there in that Ms. Harvey has more of a challenging stare than an uncomfortable one. On the sleeve inside the album is an equally stark portrait of Harvey in the same dress, this one in profile. Taken together, I think there's something of a Whistler homage here in style, though not a recreation of any particular work. The music inside the sleeve, by the way, is just as stark as the artwork, but it grows on you.
