OH WHAT. First Adrian Mole and now Dirk Gently. WHO DOES STEPHEN MANGAN THINK HE IS? MARTIN FREEMAN???

I really don't want to be all nay-say-y about this because sometimes I feel like negativity is my DEFAULT SETTING. But, really.

I know, I kind of want to give it a chance? But then the rest of my brain goes THEY ARE MAKING A TV SERIES OF FAMOUSLY UNFILMABLE BOOKS WHICH ARE AWESOME. THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAN GO WELL.

(And your "Martin Freeman?" made me laugh. Harsh but true!)

Ooh, this has...I want this to be good, I really do, but I share your WHAAAT? about it.

It does look a little like they're going to make a procedural out of it, and I LIKE procedurals, but kind of want to go and make clear, violently if necessary, that the Dirk Gently books are very very very much NOT procedurals and should not be dealt with that way. He happens to be a holistic detective, that is not the same as "the Dirk Gently books are crime novels" ffs.

I see what you mean- that trailer fills me with trepidation with slivers of hope. It could be the sort of adaptation where one doesn't reread the book just before it's broadcast, so that the betrayal isn't quite so glaring-in-the-face-ish.

Hmm. Well, the trailer's awfully less-than-competent, but 1) cute music and 2) DIRK!GENTLY! So I live in hope...
