Love it. And the fact that, at first blush, it sounds like he intends to eviscerate Costis. Leave it to Gen to threaten people in a nice way.

It kinda does sound like he's threatening him. XD Though, I suppose he was in a way, but with super dangerous missions not with immediate bodily harm.

Which reminds me, I think this is another instance of Megan's use of Important Punctuation.

But it does give me an idea for what to do with you.”I always thought it was odd that she didn't just put a comma after landed and make it one sentence. That would be more grammatically correct then starting a sentence with a conjunction, but I always shrugged it off since it was dialogue ( ... )

My main problem with this argument is that fact that Attolis set Costis to learning the Mede language on his first day as lieutenant. He even had a set of crib notes on the structure of the Mede language and a vocabulary list ready to give him, with the words for "traitor," "idiot", and the conjugations for "to hit" added artistically at the end. Indeed, the whole point of Attolis's Mede lessons (besides reinforcing the court's impression that the king was a disinterested, illiterate, barbarian fool) seems, in retrospect, to force Costis to take a crash course in the language ( ... )
