Very interesting. The connections to Tamora Pierce struck me as very coincidental, as I also grew up with those books (though about half a decade later than Zutter), and I had the great pleasure to see Pierce for the first time last night (this is a banner year for collecting authors for me - MWT in the summer, and Pierce last night!)

I think that King of Attolia definitely equals Queen of Attolia in power and consequences. I will admit that Sounis and Kamet are very loveable characters, but I don't have the same connection to them that I do to Gen, Costis, and especially Irene (though Kamet becoming Costis's best friend does help a lot).
