Hahahaha, love it! Especially with the book in the background. I hope one day Megan will share a short story about that with us. I'm sure she knows what happened to the sheep, just like Aulus, Boagus (aka Bob), and Gen.
Longwool breed, distinctly curly coat, forelock, wool-less face and legs, coloured fleece ... I'm thinking Ornon appears to have been keeping Wensleydale sheep there. What's the crimp and staple length like? XD
Sheep manure ... excellent soil amendment and garden fertilizer ... typical nutrient analysis N-P-K 0.7-0.3-0.8 ... Sheep, similar to rabbits, produce pelleted droppings that are dry, easy to handle and virtually odorless ... referred to as cold manure because of its low nitrogen content ... high quality organic matter ... two distinct situation of manure collection that give rise to different forms of manure. Both have their advantages and provide excellent nutrients and organic matter ... sheep manure that contains bedding material has the advantage of the urine also being absorbed by the bedding and adding extra nutrients ... that gathered from animals brought into housing for shearing and other purposes is free from bedding material and will provide more actual manure ... apply manure in the fall and work it into the soil ... 15-20 lbs per 100 square feet is a good guide but by no means a set figure ... liquid sheep manure can be applied to plants at any time ...
I am really, really hoping Ornon's sheep show up in the final book and play some pivotal role in defeating the Mede in a battle or something along those lines. Being a fan of Dorothy Dunnett, I can't help hoping this will be in the form of his sheep dressed up in Eddisian/Attolian uniforms so it looks like their army is significantly bigger than it really is.
Granted, Gen is not above wooing a wife with bleats, and there are a number of 'goatfoot'-like nicknames for Eddisians, so it could just genuinely be a war-cry he thinks is funny I suppose. :)
