-Prettttty much any David Sedaris you can get your hands on. :)

I think I got a little carried away. However, the first three listed are the three most recommended. :)

A few off the top of my head:

For fiction, anything by Patrick O'Brian, whether it be from the Aubrey/Maturin series or one of his stand-alones (I liked "The Golden Ocean" and "The Road to Samarcand").

For nonfiction, I like Mark Kurlansky, especially "Salt" and "Cod". "The Secret Life of Lobsters" by Trevor Corson is also a good read.

Chuck Klosterman writes about pop-culture from a social science standpoint, I think my favorite of his was "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs".

I 2nd the David Sedaris rec. In the same vein are books by Augusten Burroughs.

Good luck in you goal! I'd be interested to know which books you pick, too.

Wow, thank you for all of that! I'm getting the list together and taking a trip to the library tomorrow (hopefully).

The Klosterman book sounds really interesting. I'm a total geek so social science is right up my alley! ;D

You know, I keep running across all three of those authors and still have yet to pick up any of their books. Authors totally added to my list, done and done. Thank you! And the Rankin book sounds really interesting!
