one of my favorite pop songs of all time: the easy beats - friday on my mind.
the opening is absolute urgency, the guitar line ringing, slowly altering into the beautiful minor key melodies of the verse, then exploding into the major key for the chorus. it's perfect. it's the drudgery of the week followed by the exultation of the weekend. it's "five o' clock world" times ten, a little british-by-way-of-australian invasion gem. the verse just descends like heaven, & the chorus uplifts you like a chorus of angels. if you don't break out punching the air with joy, you've no soul to you.
it's simultaneously a working class anthem sorta song & a party song, which are the best kinds of parties in my opinion.
