Typing > Voice Chat

Personally, I consider voice chat as being far too consuming than typing. Why? You'll never be sure about the state of the headset, the audio hardware, the Internet connection and speed, and whatever the person at the other side had set up for his/her computer; any of these factors can cut short voice chat ( Read more... )

Conversely, I do not understand texting on a phone. :?

Here, text messages are dirt-cheaper than a cellular phone call (as opposed to elsewhere, where it's expensive) that practically the whole country had made it a de-facto language of telecommunication (and the milking cow of the telecoms); they've gone so far as to include it even on forums and blog postings, but at the same time making the current generation forget what it's like to write clear sentences.

Right now, my cellular serves only as a pager (instead of functioning as a social device), and I check my three email boxes for maintenance reasons.

Yeah, it's really strange that some people in my country hate typing on a keyboard and wanting to use webcams and voice chat when they have an IM, but they prefer to text than to make a phone call.

Really? Wow - I guess I never thought about it before since I am not a friend of the telephone. :) I just always thought making a call is quicker than texting - especially since texting is very expensive here, but then, there are a lot of telecommunications monopolies in Alaska so I guess I should not be surprised.
