Taking Precautions

I would see Jack in another month but I was needy that night. When she stopped me and warned about taking precautions, I knew she didn't mean the usual one.1 She was letting me know she wanted me to take her as a woman,2 but wrapped the message around a hard kernel for me to bite down hard on.3 So I turned it back on her,4 and it wouldn't be the last time. Money was my shield against the truth,5 an excuse for inaction,6 an invisible defensive weapon that turned on me again and again. In the end it would leave me alone. 7
