It was nice to sit in from the cold, just flipping through magazines or manga, drinking tea with company. He probably shouldn't find Hiei's presence comfortable, but after several weeks together in this place it was hard not to get used to him.
His mind had wandered, as it usually did in these moments, about how used he'd gotten to Hiei, to Kurama and Yusuke. His relationship (if you could even cal lit that) with Yukina.
And then his thoughts had turned to how this couldn't last forever. Out of all of them, he was the only human. The strongest human in probably the world, but still human. He'd die one day, wouldn't he? And then what?
"Hey, uh--" Hiei probably wasn't the best person to bring this up to, but he was the only one still around. "You guys are all demons, so you're gonna live forever. I'm gonna die one day."
Hiei turns toward the other, brows creased in a way that would indicate that he's surprised that Kuwabara is having such deep thoughts. he declines to respond immediately, though inwardly he debates between calling him a fool, or saying something snide about 'thanking Koenma' that Kuwabara wasn't going to live as long as the rest of them. But it would seem to be an injustice to not somehow reward some sort of deep thought from the usually baffoon like member of the team, and so after his little period of thought, Hiei sets his cup of tea aside and fixes those wide red eyes on Kuwabara.
"It's not forever, just a few thousand years -" Of which Hiei was an infant as compared to Kurama. But then he offers a significantly more - or well, less - cruel answer.
Kuwabara gives Hiei a look, because a few thousand years practically IS forever you smartass, but the comment about reincarnation makes him pause. True, he believed in such a thing, and he knew Koenma had the power to do it, but...
"Yeah, but it wouldn't be me. I mean, it'd be like-- the same soul, or whatever, but I probably wouldn't look the same or even act much the same." Though he'd probably still hold on to some traits during the transfer. He hoped one of them was his impeccable taste in hairstyles.
"And I'd still die." He flips another page of the magazine, but he's not reading it anymore or concentrating on the pictures. "Urameshi'd probably make you guys go looking for the new-me."
Maybe to you, Kuwabara, but that's pretty routine for Hiei so it doesn't quite seem as long. The fire demon scratches at the side of his face, as if having a civil conversation with Kuwabara makes him a little nervous, or that he doesn't quite know what to do with himself. he wasn't quite so concerned with his own mortality, and never had been, so these sorts of questions brought up things even Hiei didn't really want to think about. Odd, considering that Hiei could stomach things that would drive most others to horrified reactions

"Koenma is likely to reincarnate you, though."
