Kaoru put on her nicest kimono, what she could find in Death City anyway, and slipped on a shawl, tying the bright pink ribbon into her hair. New world or not, Shuurei-san is a government official.. I want to at least look halfway decent! She thought sheepishly, tying the knot into her hair before she bounded out the door, carrying a basket with some threads of her own, a few ends hanging over the basket as she made her way to her new friend's home.

After a few times looking for the right place, Kaoru at last found her room. Knocking tentatively, Kaoru called out politely, "Shuurei-san? It's Kaoru."

Smiling, Shuurei opened the door. “Please come in, Lady Kaoru.” As she stepped aside to let the other girl enter, she noted Kaoru’s kimono and the basket of threads. “Your outfit is nice. It’s not exactly the same but it looks closer to the clothes we had in my country than many of the things I’ve seen here.” Shuurei herself was just wearing her everyday outfit of simple red, pink, and yellow robes and her hair was tied up into its usual loops with a pink scarf.

“Would you like a cup of tea before we begin? Although it’s strange how the tea comes in little paper bags here.” Being used to loose tea leaves, she had once tried opening up one of the little paper bags and pouring the contents into a teapot but that had just resulted in an undrinkable mess.

“And you can tell me more about what you’re trying to make.”

She slipped off the tabi she could afford, flushing at the praise. "Ah um, thank you. I wanted to ask you what your country is like, in fact!" She smiled, admiring her own outfit with a bit of envy. It must be nice to be able to do things like that---wait, that's why I'm here, don't get distracted Kaoru! You can do this..

As Kaoru peptalked herself she didn't notice her request and jumped a bit, nodding to compose herself. "Y-Yes I'd appreciate it! Yes, I think it's strange how the tea-things work..all of it's strange, to be honest. " She set her basket down on table, her smile soft.

"Well, I..um, I want to make a scarf for my friend, Kenshin. And my friend Sano likes using his fists, but with this weather, what he's going to need is some gloves..and a few other things.."

Shuurei closed the door behind Kaoru and moved towards the kitchen. “Well, Saiunkoku is a large country ruled by Emperor Shi Ryuuki.” A worried frown came to her face at the mention of that name but she quickly covered it with a smile and turned to the cupboard to take out a couple of cups and a box of tea bags. She continued talking as she made the tea. “There are eight provinces, named for the colors of the Eight Immortals who aided the first Emperor Sou Gen when he defeated the demons roaming the land and founded the country. The major noble clans also bear the names of those colors. I lived in the capital city of Kiyou for most of my life and haven’t seen many of the other provinces. But there weren’t nearly as many strange inventions as there are in this world ( ... )
