John had wanted to check out the festival, since hey, it had sounded like fun! He had always spent the holiday season with his dad, but they had never gone to anything like a festival before. Maybe he could find some gifts there for his friends, since... well, he hadn't really gotten around to Christmas shopping yet. Which was why he was heading there first without telling them. Maybe if there was a bunch of cool stuff to do, he would call them up and get them to join him! Good thinking, best plan.

So all wrapped up in a blue coat and yellow scarf (man, it sure was getting colder and colder outside fast), he headed in the direction of the festival grounds, not really paying much attention to the roads as he listened to Whitney Houston's totally sweet voice through the used CD player he had picked up. There weren't really any cars to worry about in the city anyways, with most people walking throughout the tiered layout ( ... )

While John hummed that totally wimpy song that Yosuke didn't totally have on his mp3 player under a playlist titled 'Class Lectures', a motorcycle rumbled from just out of view. For his part, Yosuke was drumming out a beat on his break handles. Not the safest, but he wasn't going that fast...

When he made the turn, he had about two seconds to react. Unfortunately, those seconds were spent thinking oh crap, I really wish I had a better grip on my breaks.

Yosuke did manage to swerve slightly (though not very effectively, calling out at the top of his lungs, "Shit, kid, move!!"

John could actually hear the motorcycle through his own music, but through the volume, it sounded much further away than it really was. So, in a second of momentary misfortune, he stopped to pause in the street as he finally heard the sound approaching, his expression blanking in confusion as he turned to see what it was.

What he didn't expect to see was a vehicle speeding right at him.

He only had enough time to process the shout with his eyes widening, like a deer in headlights, before he was hit. The swerve of the wheel caught him right in the leg and he fell over, hitting his head on the road and promptly blacking out before the pain could even register.

It turned out that Yosuke's reflexes weren't quite up to their usual snuff when there was a huge piece of machinery between his legs. He barely managed to keep the bike upright, wincing as it very nearly went parallel to the ground. It took a moment to right himself, but that was all the time Yosuke allowed before abandoning the motorcycle on its side. He spun on his heel, instantly greeted with a sight that made his stomach turn.

Shit. Shit, shit, shit.

The kid's (John, that was him, it was John, shit) head was bleeding impressively, making a little pool on the sidewalk where he'd hit it. The cut wasn't very deep (though hell if Yosuke was man enough to touch John and see that for himself), but it was a headwound, which meant a deceptive amount of blood. Yosuke felt himself going green as he took the newly shattered glasses frames off John's face, tossing them aside before attempting to brush the glass from the boy's face. Jeez, he looked pale. This was so not okay.

A few slaps to the cheek did nothing. Neither did the few harder ( ... )
