Description: Sasuke has a nightmare, Sara tries to help, they're both awkward as all hell.

[Sasuke wasn't awake to hear Saralegui rise, nor did the sound of a door opening and footsteps rouse him from his slumber the way it should have. instead, he was in a fitful state of sleep. a crease in his sleeping brow as he lay half tucked on his side, facing away from the door.

it was the same as always, the nightmare- only different. the flickering images of his family being slaughtered before his eyes. splatters of blood across walls and floorboards, across his own hands. hands that when he looked up, he was faced with the twisted bodies of curses and failed experiments. orochimaru's unending grin that he staggered to get away from. the need to fight his way out, slipping on blood, trying to get away from what was chasing him. sometimes it was orochimaru, sometimes it was itachi. sometimes he wasn't sure who it was at all and was only aware of his heart pounding and the bodies he was tripping over to get away.]

[lavenderglasses]

I'm lying down. [he twists just enough to peek over at Sasuke, arching an eyebrow] What, do you really expect me to just leave you to whatever was just bothering you so much that I heard you from my room and go back to sleep?

[hatedriven]

[bluntly:]

Yes.

[lavenderglasses]

[he frowns slightly, and turns his face into the sheets.]

And what if I'm just concerned?

[hatedriven]

It's not that big of a deal.

[honestly he's a little surprised it hasn't happened before.

but then, maybe his dreams did get worse with age.]

[lavenderglasses]

Again, it doesn't look that way to me.

[hatedriven]

Sara- [the mutter comes out like an exasperated sigh, and Sasuke pushes one hand through his hair before finally pushing away from the window. moving back into his bedroom, he sat down on the edge of the bed.]

I'm not going to talk about it. If you're going to stay in here and wait for that, you're wasting your time.

[lavenderglasses]

[innocently:] I'm not waiting for you to talk about it. I'm just worried about leaving you on your own.

[hatedriven]

[there's a long silence following that statement.

before Sasuke says in a voice that's flat, because he can't decide if it's funny or annoying.]

I've spent nearly ten years handling this on my own, Saralegui. I think I can handle another night.

[lavenderglasses]

Just because you've done it before doesn't mean you should have to. [how long did he spend on his own, after all, wishing that he wasn't?]

[hatedriven]

[Sasuke doesn't try to fight that logic. how badly had he wanted someone who understood when he was young? how much of a relief was it when Naruto, even if he didn't know his pain exactly, could understand just a little?

his shoulders soften, just fractionally.

it was easy to forget. especially when he'd spent the last three years trying.]

[he doesn't notice the subtle movements, but only because his face is still in the sheets. but he's not sure how to interpret sasuke's silence, and he doesn't want to make it seem as important as moving to check would, so he remains still, instead just idly noting how the bed smells like his partner.]

[hatedriven]

[and then he spends the next few moments trying to decide if he's just going to get up or not. it was three in the morning, training would start in a few hours, and if he went out now he could eat and maybe get a walk in.

his weight shifts on the bed, and he stretches out on his back next to his partner. it wasn't the first time he'd shared a bed with someone, vaguely recalling his time after the forced Bond.

his body was still tired, and if he was going to be honest, he was emotionally exhausted to. and here, he didn't really have a fear of someone exploiting that.]

[lavenderglasses]

[feeling the bed shift beside him, the king sat up a bit to look over at sasuke, mildly surprised.]

...Are you alright?

[hatedriven]

Yes.

[he meets the gold of Sara's eyes for a moment, before rolling onto his side away from him, presenting him the long bare line of his back.]

[lavenderglasses]

...Alright.

[he continue staring for a moment, perplexed, before carefully laying back down, as if afraid to disturb sasuke.]
