[Seimei washed his hands, slipping a brief scrub of his cheek, before cleaning off a knife and rinsing a tomato, beginning to slice it. He was obviously rather skilled with a knife, chopping the tomato with ease.]

Some people simply aren't suited for mistreating others. Think of it like the act of putting down a dog. Some people are able to steel themselves and do what is necessary, others can't take a life or bring harm to another living creature no matter how they try. And within those who can't act in violence, there are those who show aggression and try to interfere with those who can, bringing in questions of morality in order to bring the death to a halt ( ... )

[Clovis stands at the doorway, watching. His arms cross lightly in front of his chest -- only because he is uncertain what to do with them. Having them just remain at his sides, it felt odd.]

They aren't human... not anymore. [He lets out a soft sigh, remembering another witch. His fingers twitch a little against his arms. Fright at the fact that she could not die and all the power that she possessed.] They've experimented upon us. They've constantly launched attacks to kill us. They're part of the cause that corrupts souls and creates Kishin Eggs. We owe them nothing.

It does not make us the better men to show mercy when our enemies are willing to cut us down so easily...

Think of it like hitting a dog. I have no issue punishing an animal... but a vast majority of people are unable and unwilling to bring harm to it. They empathize with it, no matter how much they try not to, and can only see harm being inflicted upon themselves in response. It's because a vast majority of people are of a submissive mindset! And culture rewards those who are meek and gentle; it's the ideal for any social interactions.

When confronted with a war, the meek must be forced to battle. The witches are not meek. They're wolves, trained to be predators from birth, and are fearless killers. Shibusen is filled with goats; some who will kill wolves with their horns, some who will flock and hide. But even those who kill can't find joy in bringing harm to a wolf, making it suffer. There's nothing in that for them.

I certainly have no desire of striking a dog. But wolves, as you say, are a different matter all together. [Clovis straightens his posture just a little more -- he is not a tall man and that makes it even more obvious. Seimei is taller than he is, but he tries not to dwell on that.]

I won't take joy in their death. [At least, he tries to say that he won't. But there is a vindictive part of him that can't help but be happy that they will be gone.] I will take joy in the fact that we will all be safe once they are gone. Once they learn that they cannot keep doing as they are doing.
