He was walking out and about to get some exercise, and to enjoy the people passing around walking in their various sorts of costumes, when something came close to him.
He tilted his head toward the side as he examined it. What was it? It seemed familiar, only because it somehow reminded him of Mushu and that one Kiao Sea Dragon he met before. He looked it up and down, and then saw its feet: they were human feet. It ( ... )

He watched as he saw a young girl somewhere around Roland's age get out from under the tail-end of the costume, and come up to him with no hesitation at all.
He smiled as pleasantly as he could, when he noticed that her eyes were somewhat like someone else he knew. Comprehension dawned on him as she touched the scales on his skin almost at once.
"Pleasure to meet you, Toph. My name is Temeraire."
With that, he lowered his nose to her shoulder, and gave her a slight nudge in greeting. It was only fair to do this, if she had nothing more to go on than touch is how he reasoned his decision.

He remained quiet within the shield of the dragon's head. Still playing his part, regardless of their lack of tail, the kirin continued to blink the faux-dragon's eyes while regarding Toph and Temeraire speak. They ddin't last there for long before he turned his attention around to his mid-section.

And as he was saying that, he was shifting his hold to take up Toph's spot, which indeed gave their makeshift dragon the look of something with a very, very bad back. He was keeping half of his mind on the two outside of the costume-- feeling intensely pleased with both of them, honestly, since they were both his citizens (even if England tried to lay claim to Temeraire)- but it wasn't too large of a distraction. Even with a two-third filled costume, this day was turning out more than well.

"Ah, I think that could possibly work," he said a little dubiously, "but it does not seem at all as lively as it did before."
It was true, it seemed rather odd.
After hearing Toph's words, it surprised him that she would know about Mushu since it was his idea to keep things 'on the down low,' as he put it. It took some explaining, but he later came to understand the meaning.
"Is that so? In that case, I shall most certainly keep it to myself," he said in a rather pleased tone of voice, "though I thank you very much for your kind words."

The comparison between the two dragons only drew amusement out of the kirin. He could almost imagine the reaction his darling little Mushu would give, and he felt himself tempted to quote Toph's words just to see it. Perhaps once this was all over and done with...
