Kanaya is not sure what to expect when she gets to the hospital. She's doing her best to keep herself calm, because she doesn't want to agitate him any further. Still, she can't remember when she's ever been this angry. She was never that close to Aradia or Terezi, and what happened to Tavros was before she knew him.

She goes up to his room, knocking on the door first before she goes in.

The door knock is just enough to make Kurt stir, though he's still not quite awake. The drugs that had been used to put him under for the surgery are just now wearing off, but that doesn't mean he's not still tired. Thank god, though, that the pain-killers are still working their magic. He's able to actually sigh and even swallow without wanting to die, a vast improvement from before.

He does both, and shifts his head slightly in his half-sleep.

The sounds her shoes make across the floor are light, and it doesn't take her long at all to get to his bed. She gives him a cursory once-over, noting to herself that he looks better than what she'd expected. According to the chart on the foot of his bed, she... doesn't know exactly what happened, really. Human biology is completely foreign to her. Judging by the fact that there are bandages around his neck, though, it was something especially cruel.

She puts the chart back, and goes up to get a closer look. It probably won't tell her much if anything at all, but it still might be a good idea.

It occurs to him as he starts to wake up a little more that he's actually really thirsty. His mouth is ridiculously dry. Maybe the person knocking before, the person walking up close to his bed, is a nurse? If only he could find the energy to open his eyes and find out...

Kurt's eyelids open slowly - they're still really heavy - but once he sees that it's not a nurse, it's Kanaya, he quickly closes his eyes again. His heart starts racing - what does she want? Is she here to tell him what an idiot he was? Is she here to say "I told you so"? That doesn't seem at all like something Kanaya would do, but Kurt wants to call himself an idiot, so it's not too far of a leap to think that maybe other people, even friends, would agree with him.

Hopefully she doesn't notice he's awake. He tries to remain still, and keep his breathing even, despite his nerves.

By this time, Kurt is starting to get bored. And also, annoyed. Other than his throat, he's fine. His concussion was really minor, his bruises aren't anything homophobic bullying in Lima hadn't prepared him for, and he's getting really sick of soft hospital food and just laying here. They say maybe he can leave tomorrow, and he can't wait, despite the danger outside. Vriska... is still out there. But, he figures, as long as he doesn't travel alone again... hopefully it'll be all right ( ... )

Kurt rolls his eyes. Of course he looks better than before. He's no longer coughing up blood and can actually breathe and even eat soft foods. He feels so accomplished.

Sighing, he types out a response for Shizuo:

Restless. Fairly crappy, overall, but mostly restless. They say I can probably leave tomorrow, as long as I come back for daily check-ins.

(( Unless these need to stay chronological, in which case, 6 PM? :V Also feel free to skip this post if you'd prefer; I just thought it might be fun.))

Dug has met all sorts of interesting folks in his first day or so in Death City, but he hasn't been able to find his master Carl anywhere. Everyone had been so sure they'd find him soon; it's a bit discouraging to go so long without seeing him.

But Dug is not the sort of dog who gives up easily! He searches the city, sniffing high and low, investigating every elderly man and loud boy he comes across. Eventually he finds the clinic, and his ears perk up. It smells medicinal, a lot like the home his master visits often! Maybe he'll finally find the old man in this place.

He gets in through automatic doors, nose to the ground, sniffing intently with his terrible sense of direction keen tracking skills. He follows his imaginary trail down the hall, right into Kurt's room, and under his bed apparently without noticing the sick kid.

morning is fine! and like i'd skip this. :P couragemantra February 22 2011, 00:19:41 UTC
...What on earth? There is dog in his room, under his bed. Kurt's eyes bug out for a long few seconds before he rolls to his side and bends (wincing, slightly, thanks to the bruising on his stomach and back) to see if the dog under his bed is still there or... maybe he'd imagined the dog altogether?

It was probably the painkillers. They were probably hallucinogenic.

Nope, there is really a dog, and it just popped out the other side of the bed. Catching Kurt's scent, Dug turns around and looks up at him in surprise. He honestly hadn't noticed him lying up there.

He takes a couple more whiffs. Blood, medicinal smells, this human is injured! Every dog worth his fur knows that when a human is down, they must be comforted. And so, Dug's face breaks into a happy smile and he sits down by Kurt's bed.

"Hi there!"

Oh dear god what sort of drugs did they have him on, exactly? That dog did not just talk!

Kurt's mouth falls open in a little "O", though he can't speak so it just sort of... hangs there. For a while. Eventually, he moves his hand to touch the dog's snout... just to see if it's real.

Oh. Apparently it is. At least this is just an aural hallucination. That probably means he's slightly less crazy than he'd originally thought.

October 22nd, early afternoon call_me_h0ney February 22 2011, 01:14:46 UTC
Brock was doing his rounds at the clinic, visiting patients and ensuring their comfort as well as monitoring their healing. He'd been checking in on Kurt during the morning to ensure he hadn't woken yet. Stepping into his room in the early afternoon, it looked like he was finally awake. Brock had frowned as he'd read Kurt's details earlier that day. The injury sounded like it had been pretty bad. He hadn't been in the clinic the night before when Kurt had been brought in, but perhaps he and Naomi could help him heal faster when she came in later.

He stepped over to the bed with a friendly smile and pulled up a chair. He always thought it was better to create a friendly, calm atmosphere for patients rather than a formal clinical one.

"Hi there Kurt. My name's Brock, and I work here at the clinic. You probably won't be able to talk for a while, but I'll be here if you need anything. Feel free to buzz me anytime," Brock grinned and tapped the buzzer near Kurt's bed. "Is there anything you need now?" he asked.

Kurt gave Brock and halfhearted smile and waved at him using his fingers before picking up his communicator and typing a reply:

Nice to meet you, I guess. I think I'm fine for now, but there are a few questions bugging me. Are you a doctor?

Brock was pleased to see that the young man seemed to be aware of his surroundings. He read the message Kurt typed out for him.

"Well, you just let me know when you're in pain, and I'll give you some more morphine," Brock replied in a stern voice. "Don't try to suffer through it."

"I'm not a doctor, more of an doctor's assistant, or a nurse. My partner is a doctor though. Her name is Naomi," he answered his question with a smile. "I've been working in the clinic for a while now."

He wouldn't dare trying to suffer through the pain - that had been bag enough the first time. Soon after he'd woken up, after Kanaya had left and he'd had a long and frustrating cry, he'd asked for two things: water, and some more pain killers. He really was fine... for now, anyway. As far as pain was concerned.

Still, he nodded yes, and typed a new reply:

I see. I'm just curious about how successful the surgery was. How well it went... and when I'll be able to talk or sing again. Also, if it left a scar. I bet it did.

Souji had gotten to the clinic just a little bit after Kurt had been taken there by his friends. He was still in shock over it all, because really, who would do that to Kurt? It reminded him of seeing the other Souji on the DEMISE network.

Reminded him of what Adachi might have done. And for that one, brief, horribly moment, he was so positive that it was Adachi that he was scared out of his mind. But he had stayed by his side as long as he could, staying in the waiting room during the surgery. They'd given him a chair so he could sit by his side. And he had only taken some time to go back home, change clothes, shower, try not to look as exhausted as he did.

When he got back, it looked like Kurt was still sleeping. He just went and sat in the chair he hadn't moved from for hours, waiting for him to wake back up.

He had somehow settled himself into sleep again, brought on by the morphine and his own miserable feelings, but this time it was a much less deep sleep. Obviously, he hadn't been awake before to know that Souji had spent the night, and he hadn't been there when Kanaya had come by, either, so it was something of a surprise when some odd noise down the hall stirred him from his sleep, and he opened his eyes to see Souji sitting in the chair by the bed.

His eyes widened immediately and without thought, he was reaching over, desperate to touch him, happy to see him, and infinitely sorry to have obviously worried him.

He looked intensely relieved as he took his hand in his with a small, tired smile. He put his elbows on the bed, holding onto his hand tight.

"Hey. Looks like someone's finally awake," He said softly, keeping his eyes on him, and trying to ignore the bandages at his throat, as well as his other scratches. It was already bad enough, but at least his eyes were open. He'd been staring at a sleeping face for too long.

Kurt took a few gulping breaths and squeezed Souji's hand back. He wished he could talk (for the billionth time that day so far) if only so he could continue holding Souji's hand like this. It was silly - ridiculous, even - but having Souji there was already making him feel more himself again.

After a long moment of just holding Souji's hand and staring at him with what he was convinced was his sappiest, stupidest smile to date (and yet, his most genuine one so far that day), he mimed with his free right hand writing on a his blanket, hoping Souji got the message.

Texting while one hand wasn't free was hard, but he could manage writing on paper, assuming there was any nearby.
