Well, he was making it harder by scurrying around like that. Vriska had been waiting for him; she'd laid low on the roof of a nearby building, intending to trail him and get a better idea of his habitual route, but now... he was taking back alleys and side roads that cut across the districts, forcing her to use her vision eightfold to keep track while she followed him around.

It was kind of cute, that he was that frightened of what was obviously to come. In a way, it was almost flattering. Almost. From where she sat, she could see his pale human fists balled up, like he was angry or anxious about something, and his eyes darted about, preylike--a perfect opportunity.

And she was nothing if not an opportunist.

Of course, coming from the roofs, there was no way to go but down.

Time to drop in.

It was good, really, that he knew these shortcuts. He wasn't the type to take the same route twice on a normal day, and by now he was almost halfway to the Communal - almost home free.

The temptation to run the rest of the way was enticing. His footwear at the moment would be substandard for that, though - these boots were not made for running. Neither was his outfit, really. He'd like to avoid sweating in it.

So, a quick and steady pace it was. He still kept an eye out, but at this point his fists clenched slightly less. Maybe he was just being paranoid. What kind of crazy idiot would stalk him on his way home, anyway?

This is the tiniest tag I've ever written. visioneightfold February 18 2011, 06:09:34 UTC
Vriska waited until he was only a couple of yards away before she leapt, landing a in a crouch a few feet from him, her wild black hair falling around her grey face and yellow eyes.

Surprise, Kurt.

To say that Kurt was surprised would be an understatement. He let out a gasp as a troll girl just jumped from the sky apparently and landed in front of him. And - oh. Those were the horns Kanaya had warned about. "You..."

His heart rate increased several-fold, and he barely had to take more than a second to weigh his options: fight, or flight? This was the most basic of biological responses, and he had only to chose. He'd been vaguely afraid that something like this might happen, after all, thus it didn't take him too long to chose his answer: flightHe spun around and ran down the street, back the way he'd came. He didn't care to remember another biological fact, that fleeing from a predator only encouraged a chase to occur sooner. He still sort of believed that maybe he was over-reacting. Maybe Vriska just wanted a polite chat - or as polite as bullies usually got, which usually included name-calling and taunting, maybe a bit of shoving. If he ran away, he could avoid this situation escalating further, either way ( ... )

The look on his face was immensely satisfying, and there was a beat before he made up his mind in which to savour it. Then he turned to run and she broke: the chase was on. It wasn't a long one, more like a short but powerful sprint, her eyes shining with predatory intent as she ran him down, her red shoes beating over the pavement as she gained on him. He had a tremendous height advantage, but she had the speed--and a predator always had the advantage over the prey.

She aimed for his knees.
