Karkat's notebooks are going to seem familiar to Vriska if she'd been paying any attention to his frequent memos on the network. With the exception of some personal remarks and bad language, the stuff he's written about witches and partnerships and such is practically word-for-word what he's been posting.

There is one journal he hasn't been sharing, one containing detailed notes about his firsthand experience as a weapon so far -- accidentally injuring himself and Kida by shutting down, getting used to Selendis's personality and fighting style, reminders of things he wants to try to make their partnership better, and a soul tally on the last page with one mark so far. A few lines are marked with "TELL KANAYA", but let's face it, that's about as close as she's going to get to private information from her brave leader. He's not stupid; anything he really wants to keep from her is staying in his head ( ... )

Vriska had, secretly, been hoping for better information--better secrets--than that, but... the reminder of her loss of ability filled her with venome, and she reached for a notebook, intending to rip it to shreds, turning all of his precious notes inside to confetti.

Then she heard the door open. She froze reflexively, turning her vision eightfold in its direction almost immediately--of course, there was only one thing it could be, and that brief glance was all she needed to set herself in motion. She stepped quietly across his respiteblock, slipping out the door and moving stealthily into the hall, where she crouched, looking through the wall to watch him in the kitchen.

A wide, wicked grin had spread across her face.

Vriska hasn't lost that all-important element of surprise. Karkat ruined any chance of hearing her creeping down the hall by running some water, filling a glass, and draining it while standing at the sink. In the brief moment following, with his guard down, he looks a bit tired. Staying on top of everything is a chore, but to him, it's well worth it. Plenty of time to sleep when he's dead, after all.

He sets the glass in the sink and heads out of the kitchen, his mind elsewhere, unaware he's walking right into an ambush.

He is literally blindsided by several dozen pounds of angry troll girl.

Vriska lunged, slamming into him with all the force and momentum she has, driving him into a wall and baring her teeth violently at him in something between a savage snarl and a beastial grin.

I know we're wordy, but they can't all be novels! dungenessmaster February 16 2011, 17:30:13 UTC
He's immediately back on edge as he sees something out of the corner of his eye, in his hive uninvited and moving rapidly toward him. Without even stopping to see who it is, Karkat turns to throw a punch.

The attempt fails as she gets to him first and slams him into a wall. Advantage, Serket.

"FUCK!"

Still shoved up against the wall, Karkat grabs Vriska's arms and shoves back.
