They had a chance to escape. The thought alone was enough to push him forward, step after step as he slowly stepped sideways along a wall. This corridor was dark in the dead of the night, with only the red flashes of the alarm illuminating their way. It was empty so far, with the occasional groups of golems shuffling by somewhere further into the hallway.

The urgency of escape made him forget the pain on his back and his other injuries. It wasn't as important as possible freedom and being able to contact Shibusen. If they could even find their communicators here, or any means to send a message home, he would consider it a productive day.

Watson stopped at the corner, uncertain on how to proceed for now.

They shouldn't have gotten separated.

He understood why it happened, that their numbers broke apart in the confusion, but the thought that it shouldn't have, and that he should have found a way to keep them in one unit- that grated him the most. As a ninja he should have known better, and encouraged the group to stay together at all costs, especially after witnessing the importance of a team back home. But there was nothing to do for it now. Not when he stumbled along in the all consuming darkness, nearly too blind to see the others by his side.

Naruto's pace came to a halt, even as his heart thudded heavily in his ribcage. It didn't matter what had happened before, he had to hope that they'd be reunited somewhere further up the tunnel, or even outside this place. Just like they had to keep moving. A flicker of red and he caught sight of the man's profile- Naruto's voice was low between them. "H-hey. What is it?"

It was that odd kind of quiet that he had gotten used to. The one that was only broken by the sound of feet coming towards them. So far though it was just the quiet, which was way more then enough to keep Ash on his toes. The idea to split up was a little hard to follow but, even he had to admit it would be better all around. He had gone with that red haired girl, Ahiru was it?

He was silent, moving carefully and ignoring the sharp pains that would shoot through the wounds around his arms and back.

"...you ok?" He finally asked at a corner, glancing at the girl with him.

It was hard to remember how exactly everything had happened. The plan had been Naruto's idea, mostly - or was at least until the point where they decided to split up. Everything was rushed, so Phoenix couldn't exactly recall who was the one who threw out the suggestion in the first place - but they all followed it anyway, so now all of them were into groups of twos and threes and hidden all over the place. Hidden, because the guards and Witches were everywhere and trying to run for it now would be a one-way ticket back to the cell.

His body ached and burned with all the injuries it had gotten during the course of his stay here, but out of his own sheer will power and tenacity Phoenix had managed to get himself moving. The adrenaline and desperate need to get out was helping a lot in keeping the pain locked as well. Soldier's instincts, he would have called it if he had the chance to do so - really, after all of this he hardly felt like he was ever going to be normal again. Too much, far too much had already happened to him ( ... )

"To get to the exit?" He could barely manage a whisper, with most of his oxygen going into forcing his lungs to continue working- they would whether he did or not, but if he tried not, it wasn't a pleasant feeling, and unpleasant feelings were already in abundance- and he had to swallow once, twice, thrice before continuing, but at least he was somewhat intelligible. "The one under construction - it would be the best bet, like Naruto said. Best and most obvious. Waiting or rushing won't help that. We could..."

Could what?

Suzaku flexed his hands, ducked his head even lower as the alarm continued to ring. A shrill noise it was, and he wanted to tear it apart, but you can't tear apart sound, and you couldn't tear apart the steel boxes, either. There was a voice urging him to run straight for the exit - escape, right there - but what if they did get out? Was it still a desert out there? Should they try to find supplies before leaving? They would give the witches time to regroup, but maybe it was best if their groups didn't rush the ( ... )

Really, everything about this was rushed with little time to truly planned - most of them were already treading that thin line between sanity and insanity, desperately clinging onto that last shred of themselves. If anything this was their last chance - their only chance - of ever managing to keep themselves intact and alive. They had already lost much in their stay here, and losing more wasn't going to be good for anyone ( ... )
