KISHIN CHAMBER daddyscythe October 22 2010, 17:20:39 UTC
Stressful. Between the disappearances, the kidnappings, the repairs to the city, and the people injured or sick from the last rains of the season, Shibusen was stretched quite thin. Sometimes he wondered if the BREW was playing around with them! Although Spirit liked meeting new people as much as anyone else, he did wonder if perhaps the timing could have been a little better. At least not so early in the day! Well, that didn’t matter. Spirit and the rest of Shibusen were still going to try to give them a great welcome, anyway.

It seemed that Justin had plans for it, actually... Justin’s plans always made Spirit a little nervous. He hoped none of the new guests would actually... perish during the tour.

“Hi!” he said to the people as they came out of the chamber, still managing to raise his spirits despite the situation. “Welcome to Death City. The first thing we’ll do is hand you your communicators. It’s a great device and will allow you to contact all the other guests here like you. It has other functions that you can read about ( ... )

Wow, this guy sure seemed cheerful. Shinjiro, on the other hand, looked anything but, giving Spirit a steady, borderline glare as he was handed his communicator. He wasn't panicked by showing up here; seeing the Dark hour for the first time had killed a lot of his shock-ability, but that didn't mean he was happy about it.

"Tch, so at least we get presents after being kidnapped."

"It's not a present, it's a necessity if you're going to stay here," Spirit replied. He eyed the boy and concluded that this was another one of those grumpies; as long as they didn't attack him, he was perfectly fine with this, however. It had been a while since he got attacked by a guest last. Spirit wanted to break a record!

Katsura listened to the man talk...or rather, he heard the man talk but he was a little too busy looking at the rest of the city to have understood his situation clearly. The colors of the city seemed bright enough, but the rest of the city definitely didn't look like Edo and Katsura would have certainly remembered seeing someone with red hair before.

Death City... Katsura thought as he looked at his communicator. It seemed to have the same level of technology he knew, but there was something missing. And what about the guests? Katsura turned to look at the other people; they certainly didn't look like people from his place either. Now, the only question remaining was the purpose; why would he be lumped in with a girl with fabulous hair, a scowling teenager and who knows what else?

Although he had heard the previous explanation, Katsura was still not convinced that he'd stepped right out of war and into another. Really, that was just too absurd. "Excuse me...just how long will be we made to stay here? I have a war to attend to and ( ... )

Ordinarily, the new arrivals to Death City would be collected from the Kishin Chamber rather promptly to begin the tour around Shibusen and the rest of Death City. Today, however, the crowd is left milling and waiting, quite possibly being granted time to nurse their worries and anxieties about their new temporary home from within the rather ominous looking room. The minutes drag on and murmurs begin to rise into louder complaints until, all of a sudden, a resounding *BEEP* abruptly cuts through the air. It originates from every single communicator in the room at the exact same time, loudly and effectively silencing everybody whether through surprise or the deafening noise itself ( ... )

Lloyd's concerned about this time limit. Really, he is. Still, he can't help but react to what he's just seen.

"We have to go to school if we want to be able to do something?"

Either Justin is psychic or, far more likely, he's listening in on everybody's communicators, because seconds later more text appears:

Class attendance is entirely optional. You are fully entitled to finding a partner and attending missions without ever sitting through a lesson.

You would be woefully ignorant, that is all. Those who take their education seriously also develop and understand their powers far more quickly.

Lloyd stares at the screen silently for a while, reading this in interested. Finally, he responds aloud for no particular reason.

"Oh. That's not that bad. I think..."

One hurried dash through corridors later brings the group, minus potential stragglers, to the open terrace that stretches out in front of Shibusen Academy. From here the full view of Death City is clearly visible, outside of which stretches clusters of ruins and then the endless sea of sand that is the desert of Nevada, United States of America. Also within eyeshot is the tour guide from before, who is standing in the exact center of the broad area next to what appears to be a fold-out table. He makes no movement to approach the crowd, instead waiting patiently with arms held at either side quite simply ( ... )

Frolbericheri makes a point to read everything over carefully; it seems only natural to know what he was up against, even though he had no plans to stay for a second longer than it would take him to get this BREW machine to send him back. It was great that they warned him about this and all, but everything seems so vague that it barely seems to count as a warning.

He looks up after reading with as much patience as he can muster, waiting for Justin to go on. Justin doesn't, though, and when he walks away Frol rolls his eyes and runs to the front of the group.

"Hey, you! Aren't you going to say anything? I don't even know what the hell kind of attacks we're trying to avoid."

Apparently not; Justin doesn't so much as turn around to answer the question and simply continues to walk down the stairway. He only finally reveals his face once everybody's reached the assembled dune buggy and coffin-cars. His expression still doesn't register any recognition whatsoever and he simply resumes staring into oblivion in his empty, eerily vacant manner. If he's noticed somebody standing at the front of the group looking rather pointedly demanding, he doesn't show it.

If it hadn't been readily apparent before, under close scrutiny it is now; the youth seems to have an almost tangible aura of noise surrounding him. He's wearing odd-shaped earphones and music is blaring from them in an irritating cacophony of sound. Given how loud it is even to the ears of those nearby, the volume for the listener must be excruciating. If it was, he doesn't show that either. Chances are fairly high though that he doesn't hear a single thing that's being said.

Gray is kind of curious as to the answer of that question, as well, not to mention he's frustrated because it's so damn hot out - who the hell builds a city in the middle of a desert? And who makes somebody run across town in three minutes or less in this kind of weather to a weird looking school like this? And why?

These relatively trivial questions could wait, though.

"Hey!" Gray grabs Justin's arm after too much time passes between the blond guy's question and Justin's lack of answer. "We've got a question, here. Aren't you supposed to be... welcoming or whatever?"

At the base of the stairs waits a rather peculiar sight: parked right in front of it is what appears to be a small dune buggy. What sets it apart as remarkable is the fact that a vast collection of speakers and subwoofers hang off of it, to the extent that it remains in question whether or not the vehicle can even move under the combined weight of them. Behind it is coupled, strangely, three large black coffins on wheels, linked together in some kind of morbid road train. A sign stands erect at the end of the very last coffin:

THOSE OUTSIDE OF THE
THREE MINUTE TIME LIMIT
GET TO WALKIt just so happens that Justin wasn't joking. He jumps into the seat of the buggy and fires it up, sending gouts of smoke spilling from the gigantic exhausts. The engine is loud, but not nearly as much as the sound that assaults the ears of everybody present within a kilometer radius as the speakers roar to life with offensively loud and brain-breaking Techno. With music blaring, the train begins to move and roll along at a jogging pace for those forced to ( ... )

After nearly being deafened by those damned speakers and that horrible excuse for music, Gray almost can't hear the announcement over the ringing in his ears, but if there's one food he really likes, it's-

"Ice cream?" he repeats, surprised and not quite believing his ears. When his stomach grumbles at the very thought, he tries to ignore it. No, no, he's not going to be bought with free ice cream and free housing and free whatever else!

...But it can't hurt to take what's offered freely in the mean time while he figures all this out, can it? He heads inside.

To say the map makes very little sense to Yukimura is an understatement. Then again, it isn't as if he were the brightest crayon in the box to begin with, so maybe it isn't such a big deal. He wants to ask all the questions going through his mind, but anxiety stops him. Should he already know some of the answers? Would he be punched for asking? Would he even be heard over all of the absolutely blasphemous noise emitting from those black boxes ( ... )

They finally arrive at the end of the tour to what looked like a large apartment. There are two women waiting for them there. One of them is a young girl with long blond hair in what looked like a cowgirl outfit. The other is looking official in her usual professional attire and wearing a large friendly-looking button with black and red lettering that says: Shibusen Guests: Ask me about Housing! The red-head’s smile and eyes are just as welcoming as the button, she’s a very approachable individual ( ... )
