MAMAN IS THE BEEEEEST TT_TT shalnark September 24 2010, 06:37:10 UTC
Here was a large man, pulling up a chair with Kurapika, cap and sunglasses in tow. With a flop and a "whew!", he managed to make himself comfortable and lifted up his shades for Kurapika to see. It's not like he had to do that for Kurapika to figure out who it was. It was...pretty obvious. Not many people had that high voice with the wide smile.

"Glad to see that you made it!" Shalnark exclaimed. To be honest, he was quite excited. He had wanted to confront Kurapika for a while, and now it was his chance. "Did you grab yourself something to eat yet? Deathberry's pretty good, you know..."

His instincts had driven him to try to find the most secluded table in the store, maybe a booth he could hide in, but that would be his irrationality and paranoia talking, wouldn't it? So instead he'd chosen a table right in the middle of the floor, and now he felt horribly exposed and vulnerable, but exposed was what he needed for this meeting--or at least ideally. They were just going to talk, and his mind should stop supplying him with images of Shalnark flipping the table over and causing mayhem in broad daylight now.

Still, he couldn't help stiffening when someone sat down on the chair opposite his--there was this very brief impression of huge and taller than Kuroro, what the hell and kind of threatening before Shalnark raised his sunglasses and started babbling about the food like they were friends meeting for ice cream.

Kurapika shook his head in answer to the question. "I'm not hungry."

"It'll look odd for you to come to an eatery without eating something though. Perhaps a smoothie would be good." He eyed the Kuruta, scanning him from top to bottom. It was like he was acquiring Kurapika's data with a computer scanner. "Nice haircut."

This meeting intrigued Shalnark like no other. He had been hoping to talk to the Kuruta one on one for a while now. Of course, they had made exchanges on the network, but he didn't want "Shal" to talk to Kurapika. He wanted "Shalnark", part of the Phantom Troupe, to talk to him. One objective was to show that he had no intention of harming his danchou's partner without reason. The other was to actually make sure what exactly the Kuruta was thinking. The Ryodan member wasn't going to let the Kuruta do anything against his boss, and he was going to make sure those intentions were clear on Kurapika's part. There was no order to say he couldn't so that was what he was going to do.

"I'm sure you have questions." He mused, staring at Kurapika straight in eyes. He's kind of tiny.

Kurapika was perfectly aware that he was being scrutinized, and he didn't bother to hide that he was highly uncomfortable with the attention--it was as if he was being screened for worthiness or something equally ridiculous. The comment about his shorter hair went ignored--or maybe it got a stray, suspicious thought pondering the possibility of Kuroro telling Shalnark that it was his handiwork, and then Kurapika was moving on and back to bristling silently. It would be impossible not to feel uneasy considering the person doing the scrutinizing - Shalnark was even more of a brute compared to Kuroro, and Kurapika did not want to test his luck against those arms, especially not in a world where dumb physical strength couldn't be overruled by nen.

"You were the one who asked to meet."

Shalnark wasn't expecting him to dive right into "are you going to kill me", was he?
