Now, Arthur was more than used to seeing Merlin act as though his head were in the clouds - it was pretty much his default state, looking idiotic like that - but it didn't make it any less perturbing when he dropped things or otherwise made a nuisance of himself.

Like right now, in fact! "Merlin, have you forgotten how to use your limbs?"

Merlin vaguely registered that Arthur had said something, but he wasn't really paying attention so it just went through one ear and out the other. He was still somewhere back in that conversation with Arthur.

Which is probably the reason why he said what came out of his mouth next: "Do you know that you're a girl?"

As retorts go, that was just plain bizarre. Arthur had called Merlin a girl plenty of times (for good reason, as far as he was concerned) and never had the jibe returned, even at his most insulting. Probably because there was nothing in the least girly about him.

So, Arthur had no choice but to pull an incredulous face. "You've lost the ability to see, as well?"
