That voice.

As he passed by the church, he noticed it-- the sound of that voice, dramatically echoing around the church's interior. It was familiar.

Was it...

"Clovis?"

Stopping by the door, he looked in to see the blond man there along the aisle, standing with his hands behind his back. He overheard a little and knew that something was wrong. Perhaps it was because of his sudden declaration earlier.

A slight tilt of his head before he thought that perhaps he should leave. The Emperor was one that was ordained by the Almighty, and he had thought that perhaps, even if it was in different worlds, he would be granted an audience once more with his father to sort out his thoughts. It seemed like he would not be granted such a courtesy.

Clovis let out a loud sigh of defeat. His sister, in his eyes, was being shamed by this city and its people. Yet she smiled and said that she was happy; so, he, too, tried his best to put a stiff upper-lip for her. And yet, and yet. Even the Britannians that were present in the city, they felt what he was doing was wrong. How could that be? Back home, even if it were those Numbers who hated him, at least, his people always supported his decisions. Why?

"Genesis!" More than a little surprised to see him. "What are you doing here?"

Genesis took a few steps in. The architecture of the building and its grandeur gave away its state as a place of reverence. For what or whom, Genesis didn't know. The relative silence and the wide hollowness of the building made it certain that the place was to be respected as something sacred. He did not go further in yet, staying close to the door-- the afternoon sun was harsh against his silhouette.

"I was only passing by. Then I heard you."

Clovis had liked to had think that the God of this world would pass his messages to his father, and the Emperor would be able to answer him somehow. Using whatever great spirit that was in this world to act as a messenger within the Imperial Family, but it did not seem to work.

He sighed a little to himself as he did not feel like he was given any answer and stared at Genesis, wondering why he did not enter. Perhaps, it was better that he didn't. Though, it was difficult to see what expression the other had to see him in such a state. He did take a step back, his hands folded behind his back. More out of nervousness than anything else.

"How much did you hear?"

Adah had been working in the back recesses of the church, her hands full with records from years gone by, when she heard a voice. It wasn't normal for people to speak in the church; in the days she had been working there, she had noticed that most kept a reverent silence.

Putting down her pen and paper, she walked out to investigate. She stood towards the back of the church, watching as Clovis completed his monologue. And then, forgoing her normal precedent of writing, she spoke.

"If you're looking for God, he only answers when the Righteous call. Are you Saved?"

"Ah." Clovis took a hesitant step backward, before moving to straighten out his cravat. It was a nervous gesture that he had picked up some time. Uncertain if he always had it, or if he was just becoming aware of it. Fiddling with his clothes so that every crease was out as he sorted out his thoughts. When the righteous call. 'Ch. I was also doing it for Euphie, so that she need not be shamed by the people who talked to her so readily. As a princess, she has to keep a distance, or.

He allowed his thoughts to end and smile prettily to the miss who had appeared. Really, he wondered just how much she had heard, but decided that he would act like she heard nothing. Denial, in this case, would be very healthy rather than deal with the shame and embarrassment.

"I am, indeed, as Saved as one could hope to be, dear miss."

Adah took him in carefully, noting the small movements he made. It was interesting to watch, and she said nothing for the moment, merely watching his smile. It didn't impress her, but it was certainly interesting- what was he hiding?

"My name is Adah. And yours?"

"Clovis la Britannia, Third Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire."

He tipped his head lightly in greeting; the most that he would admit that he bowed his head to anyone. Even if a very slight twitch was felt just against his left eye. He rose his hand to touch the area, but it had passed easily enough.
