For once Belphegor was actually looking forward to something that didn't involve the prospect of spilling someone's blood. Even at the age of twenty-six he was so easily amused by something as simple as a carnival. Some things really never did change. And the fact that he got to go to one with Squalo on his first day in this place made it even better. He didn't care if it was the younger version. Why would he? Squalo was always just Squalo in the Prince's eyes.

Getting out of the boat he looked around the carnival, his mind going so many places at once. It was one of the few times when he just couldn't make up his mind. So instead he went the the obvious option. He turned and tugged on Squalo's arm. "Squalo~ I can't pick what I want to do first. What do you think~? I want a plushie. And I wanna go on rides. And I want snacks~"

Yes. Some things never changed even over time.

He didn't really have to taunt Squalo. He knew the shark well enough that he'd always get his way. Bel was a spoiled little brat like that after all. Just a tiny bit of revenge for Squalo implying he was as bitchy in spirit as Xanxus. And it seemed to work as the sharky transformed anyways. Though it didn't seem willing. So, weapons could be forced into transforming? That was good to know.

Bel acted fast, using his perfect princely reflexes to catch the sword by the hilt before it fell. He had braced himself for the pain Squalo mentioned before but was a little bit surprised to find none. In fact, the only discomfort at first was a tiny jolt, barely enough to be more than a bug bite, and the fact that the weapon was obviously much heavier than it was supposed to be.

A wide grin came over his face. He was better than Boss at something for once! Not like he'd ever mention that to the man's face but still. "Maa~ See Squalo~? I told you there was nothing to worry about~! I'm always right because I'm a prince, you should know this by now

Squalo winced... in that black, empty nothingness that was the world when he transformed, but the searing pain didn't come. It was surprising, to say the least. While he noticed he felt... torpid, though he couldn't exactly explain how a sword could feel that way, he wasn't screeching in pain. In fact, it took him a moment to feel the buzz of the rejection, far tamer than he'd anticipated.

It still was very different from when Yamamoto used him, and Squalo noticed the differences right away. He usually felt lighter, more at ease in Yamamoto's grip, but Bel's wasn't too terribly uncomfortable. Maybe in an emergency or if they were caught in a pinch, it'd be enough to get by.

"Yeah, yeah, don't brag. How do you feel?"

Along the edge of the sword, part of Squalo's face appeared as if reflecting from a certain angle.

Belphegor tested the weight a bit, moving it from one hand to the other. It took a bit of getting used to, but he could definitely use it in a desperate situation. Or when he felt like pissing Squalo off. That would be amusing too.

He grinned at the reflection. That little thing was pretty interesting too. "Maa~ Not too bad at all. You're a little heavy but other than that it seems it works out just fine. At least for what I have in mind. There's no way I'd want a sword for a weapon anyways~ Shishishi~"

"...what you have in mind?"

That was not a squeak. That was a very manly tone of concern. Because Squalo had been part of Bel's "plans" for long enough to be wary of it. He could only imagine what ten years had done to the Prince's frankly morbid imagination.

Almost at once, the buzz intensified a notch, as Squalo's knee-jerk rejection made the precarious align of souls a bit wider.

Still no pain, though. It made Squalo want to think about things he shouldn't, mostly about himself and Xanxus.

Nill looked uncertain on the blonde man with the ... tiara? holding the sword. The sword was talking! Her eyes widened, curious, as she stepped a little closer around the two of them. How is that possible? Maybe he bought it around the carnival? But she's never heard of toys that can be so well-made like that --

-- perhaps this is the 'weapon' that they talk about, the transformation! Curiously, she stares at the ornate sword, wondering how he transformed. Perhaps she should've checked with someone first whether she's a meister or a weapon. Nill clutches her PDA tightly. She'd really like to be useful to her friends.

Ah? Now what was this? Of course, it was a carnival so there would be little girls running around. This one was just so cute and timid too, almost like a doll. Like a doll that could be oh so easily broken.

The grin on his face widened as he looked down at the sword in his hand. Squalo was stuck in weapon form, he couldn't do anything to ruin his fun like that. Oh no, but he could add to it.

In seconds he had the blade pointed barely inches away from the girl, his manic grin in place. "Ah~? What's this~? Little toys aren't supposed to be out of their boxes you know~ Did you want to play with a prince~?"

The swing made him dizzy. That didn't happen when Yamamoto swung him, either. He supposed the less perfect the resonation, the more uncomfortable it got. Then again, Squalo had more pressing concerns than pondering the differences between Bel's grip and his Meister's.

It wasn't so much concern for the girl as reluctance to make a scene. Thus far, Squalo knew Xanxus wanted the Varia to slip under the radar. Slaughtering a random girl, a girl with wings, wouldn't help with that.

"Belphegor."

It was a tone Squalo hadn't used in a while. The tone that made the Bel of his time flinch and look at him with betrayal because he dared scold the Prince. Squalo was hardly in the mood.

The buzz scaled up a notch again, the gap between their souls widening some more.

If Nill could scream, she probably would've. But she can't, so the most that she could do was take a few steps backwards, her hands over her as an attempt to shield herself, hoping that she won't die, wings fluttering anxiously. She probably shouldn't have gone too far from Badou .... to think that she could die in a place called Death City, aaa --

Bel tried to stop it, he really did. But even at the age of twenty-six he couldn't help a tiny flinch, he was working on it dammit, at that tone. He knew what would happen if he disobeyed and really didn't feel like dealing with that any time soon.

So with an annoyed huff he lowered the Weapon and settled with giving the girl an annoyed look. Not like it could really be noticed behind his bangs. "Tch. A prince shouldn't waste his time on something so pathetic anyways."

Squalo rolled his eyes.

"The Prince should know better than to entertain himself with peasants." He noticed, however, the absolute silence from the girl. It was unnatural. "Peasants that can't even scream, at that."

He tried to squirm, though of course he couldn't exactly move in his current form.

"VOOOII, I'm changing back, let go of me."

Bel gave a grin at the little girl before turning and walking away from her. "Maybe next time you won't be so boring~"

Though his selective hearing did wonders for ignoring Squalo. No, he had the sword slung casually over his shoulders for the time being. He felt like annoying the shark a little for denying him his playtime.

Squalo ground his teeth. Sort of.

"I can't help but notice," he hissed, patience stretching thin, "that you're not putting me down yet."

He would turn back and land on Bel's shoulders. He would.

"Ushishishi~ What was that~?" Even despite his teasing, Bel knew when he had pushed far enough. Didn't mean he had to be fair about it though. With a flick of his wrist he tossed the sword a couple feet into the air a little in front of him.

He had no doubts that Squalo did have his limits sometimes.

Squalo transformed mid-air, landing in a crouch as his hair settled around him. He harrumphed as he stood up, flicking his hair over his shoulder and back in place. He twitched every so slightly.

"Are you done? Or is it that you're not hungry anymore?"

Bel grinned as he watched all that hair fly everywhere. Probably the main reason he had done it that way in the first place. He'd have to braid that sometime soon when Squalo was sleeping or something. Just to make up for Lussuria not being around. Someone had to keep the shark on his toes.

Almost instantly Bel was attached to Squalo's arm like a small child would. "A prince never forgets about wanting to eat~"
