[Gooooooood night, Death City! Have one (1) white haired detective, dressed in white, making this video message in the dark. The only illumination in the room is from one lonely computer screen-- thank goodness for back-up generators in the Agency-- and it makes him look eerie and almost ghost-like.]My name is Near and as most of you may know, I am ( Read more... )

A rat on the run.
Sounds like a bit of fun~

[Cheshire is... again on top of Jade's fridge. It gets even less light up there when there is no light. As such, he mostly looks like an equally creepy pair of eyes and set of teeth.]

Spider pet hasn't been around for me to bat at anyway!

[Near approves of the creepy. He wishes Cheshire could make himself useful, though, but it's probably better if the cat stays out of this.

Still, it doesn't hurt to try.]

Perhaps you should chase after this particular rat, then.

[Cheshire can be quite useful! And this sounds like fun. He smiles a bit wider.]

A game of cat and mouse~?

I've always enjoyed those.

[That means yes. Not that he'd ever be that straight forward.]

[Near is happy enough with that answer, anyway.]

Good. If you spot that particular mouse, don't forget to tell me.

Thank you for your work with the information. The Watch will act at once and catch the thief.

There is no need to thank me. I am only doing my job.

Have there been any new developments on your end?

None so far as of yet. I will be sure to inform you though once anything arises.

Passive-aggressive isn't very cute on you, Near. And honestly, I don't understand what the problem with BREW disappearing is, it's not like Shibusen knows how to control it, regardless.

It isn't passive-aggressive when you happen do fit the definition of the word stupid; it's only stating out the obvious. As for being cute or not, I could care less.

Not knowing how to control it is no excuse for anyone to decide to rob it.

Standing up to you isn't stupid, even if every single other person here is fine with being victim to your fetish for control.

Robbery requires force. And what in the world could he possibly do with it? Destroy it and save others from having to be snatched up from heir homes?

Having a fetish for control would imply actually having some sort of control over Death City, which, in case you haven't noticed yet, is not under my control in any shape or form. The only thing I control, to an extent, is the surveillance system-- which you already knew, since you were so adamant in destroying a great part of it. I would reinforce the idea that the surveillance system exists due to a need to increase security and not out of a voyeuristic fetish from my part, but I am well aware of the difficulty you seem to have in following simple logical thought processes, so I'll refrain from explaining this matter any further.

Have you forgotten the fact that BREW is also the only thing that can send us home, or have you grown so accustomed to the local lifestyle that you could care less about returning to your world?

She's not stupid.

And I don't see why it's so urgent to get the thing back. No one can do anything with it, can they?

Really now.

[Switching to TEXT...]

stu·pid, adj
- given to unintelligent decisions or acts : acting in an unintelligent or careless manner
- lacking intelligence or reason : brutish
- marked by or resulting from unreasoned thinking or acting : senseless

[...and switching back to VOICE.]

She certainly happens to fit the definition.

I never said I considered this hunt urgent; I am simply doing my job and making sure I'm on Shibusen's good side, which would in turn grant me opportunities that most people wouldn't have. It's a question of playing my cards right.

Oh, for fuck's sake.

[No, he's betraying too much emotion here, so he switches in return.]

That's your problem. Or one of them, I should say. You've never been able to tell reckless from bold.

Shibusen is as lost as any of us. Am I to assume you have some purpose in sucking up to them?

[Oh hello there, sudden change to Text. Near is narrowing his eyes in suspicion at the communicator, even though Mello can't see.]

Both are often linked but not always. I am perfectly capable of detecting stupidity when I see it, Mello.

Not anything in specific, as of yet.

[oh...

should have realised that if this world had a way to send images across great distances, they could capture them too.

ah well -- regardless, this should make things interesting!]
