Is it? We are in their debt, and they require aid. This does not strike me as a choice.

If I owe someone a debt, I have to repay it. It's common sense. This is... an odd debt, however. I am not comfortable with it.

You make a good point, doll. This place doesn't seem like it operates for free, and I gotta say, that's a pretty big concern.

They act as though it is a choice. In a way, this makes me more wary.

[She raises her eyebrow minutely at Claire's choice of words. They are hardly insulting, given that she herself is an anomaly by not being able to speak. His attempts to backtrack cause her lips to twitch faintly in amusement, but she smothers the expression as quickly as it began and chooses to focus on the more pressing issue here.]

Why did they not take that away from you? My knives were taken before I even knew they were gone.

I guess we don't have to fight...but that doesn't seem like any fun.

[Says rather thoughtfully and he pulls the knife out of the folded up part, also pulling out the little corkscrew.]

They took everythin' else I had on me! Probably not this one 'cause...well, look at it, Chane. Might nick your jugular if you're lucky!

[She leans in and peers at the tiny knife and corkscrew combination, before her eyes soften very slightly.]

I am certain you can think of something more creative than nicking a jugular, Rail Tracer.

[There is a significant pause before Chane puts pen to paper again. She writes slowly and carefully, as if she is unsure of how she wants to word what she has to say.]

... I do not like that. Is there no way to pay for things myself? A job, perhaps?

[These things are a necessity for her. As fond as she is of her dress, she cannot wear it forever. No matter how much a certain someone would probably get a kick out of seeing her in it on a regular basis.]

That you were taken here in the first place puts them in your debt, does it not? Enough for lodgings and food, at the least.

Yet without their aid we have nowhere to stay, and nothing to eat. Eventually their debt evens out and we are left in theirs. This is a complicated situation.
